Designer Dogs - Would you get one?

We found this article* online after seeing it in our local paper:
Designer dogs ... are reaching a startling height of popularity.
The dogs are a combination of two purebreds.
The results are dogs with breed names such as: chorkie,
snorkie, shorkie, goldendoodle, labradoodle, schnoodle,
and Saint Berdoodle.
Some of the designer pups will inherit the best qualities
of their parents. It's possible that some of their litter mates
may inherit the worst. That's doggie genetics.
The American Canine Hybrid Club is registering about 500
litters of designer dogs a month, more than double that of
a year ago.

It's an interesting article to read, especially if you like dogs.
While in Florida, we saw a man with an adorable little black
puppy. He said it was "Morkie", a combination of a
Maltese and a Yorkie.

My first thought was no I wouldn't like the idea !! but i suppose it is just
the same more or less
as having a Mongrel !!mixed breeds !! .We had one ,never knew really what
breed she was
we always call these "Heinz varieties " But she lived for 19 yrs and gave us
a lot of love .
The "Morkie is at least pedigree I assume.;-))

My mutt is a Heinz 57 as well, be interesting to know what the mix is
but probably impossible to find out.

Nah it's a GSB breed ( God's Spare Bits) :-)

The problem with designer dogs (apart from inherited medical problems)
is they'll be dropped as soon as they become unfashionable so there'll
be even more neglected dogs who need re-homing.

Oh, I hope not! There are enough sad stories
about neglected dogs. Breaks my heart.

Nineteen years is a long life for a dog. You were lucky.
DH and I were saying tonight that our family's "mutts"
were always wonderful dogs. It's often the training
that makes the difference.
