Jackie...
We have Sky and they asked if I would be interested in Sky B/B I said yes -
they said it would not be until about Chr***mas they are now offering me B/B
for £17.00 if I apply within 21 days, they say if I already have another ISP
for B/B I only have to ask them for a MAC code to quote when I order Sky and
they will switch me over. They offer 8MB for £17.00. Is this a good offer?

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
My PlusNet tariff is £14-99 per month and advertised as up to 8MB. But
beware no-one actually get's 8MB. The best I've heard of is just over 6Mbps
and that's for someone living very close to their exchange. The speed
you'll get will depend on the length and quality of your line, among other
things. I'm currently getting 2900 kbps and my line length is around 2.5
km. The best I got was 3600 kbps and am hoping that PlusNet are going to be
able to get that sort of speed to me again soon.

I presume you are quoting their £17 package because the won't supply the
Base (free) or Mid (£5) packages in your area. Also I don't think they give
you webspace, but then you may not require that. Have a look here for more
details.

That'll be up to 8 mb, if you can get it and few people can. Plus what
is the download bandwidth limit per month? That may not be a factor now
but could become one if you decide to download movies from the Sky
service.
Assuming Microsoft overcome the DRM crack :-)

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
I think the cap for the £17 pasckage is 40GB

pmj...
But if you're happy with your existing ISP, then why change?

Anita...
Tiscali is going to do 8mbs for £17 Jackie - look at the website:)

BoyPete...
8Mb??? highly unlikely. 'Up to' is the gimmick, but few if any ISP's can
actually supply that. From what I have read in mags, 2 - 4Mb is the best you
are likely to get. However, that is still good for the money.

Jackie...
When it comes online about Chr***mas it is supposed to be free if you have
Sky TV, that is what they first advertised.

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
It is free in many areas Jackie, but not all.

Jackie...
As I read it FN I think it is supposed to be free when it gets to this area
about December but they say by having this £17.99 package now I would get
priority
to connection then!!!Have you heard any more from them??

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
It's available here but I
'm not that interested atm/ Also Orange do, what they claim is a good deal
too. Have a browse here.

BoyPete...
Just bear in mind that nothing is 'free'. :)

Ali...
Sometimes it's included in the price (of something else), so you pay for it whether you get it or not.

Jackie...
I believe it is free when you pay over a certain amount for Sky TV but that
will not be until December in this area.

Jackie...
Will have to think about it - I think I will just stay as I am with Tiscali
until I know more about Sky's original offer.
I am not really worried about speed, just want a reliable service.

Rabbit...
While you are undecided it could be worth your while keeping an eye on

Jackie...
Thanks for that Sandra I will keep looking at that, seems there are lots of
problems at the moment!

pmj...
& the thing to bear in mind with all of those sort of Offers is that
it is "up to" 8 MB.
The *actual* Speed you get will depend on the Quality (& Length/Distance
from the Exchange) of the Phone Line.

Also, many other firms (such as Orange/Wanadoo/Freeserve) are also
now offering those sort of "Bundled" Deals.

The ADSL Broadband Internet Access *isn't* actually "Free" - what
they mean is that the Price of it is Included in the Price of the
*rest* of the stuff that you have to Sign a (usually 18 Month) Contract

Jackie...
I don't want to change ISP really but the Sky offer is for *free* B/B when
it is available in my area which they say is December
but they say if I join them now I will get priority in December! I am happy
as I am but as we use Sky I was interested in free B/B
as we are already Sky users.

& pay for.

Ponder...
Personally I wouldn't sign up to a service I hadn't seen some good
reviews for and as it's yet to exist you wouldn't have a clue what the
level of service was like. Don't let them rush you into making a mistake.

jackie...
That is what I am thinking about Ponder, I think I will stay with Tiscali
until things get sorted out as I said I am not worried about the speed just
the service.
