Everytime I go to Perrenporth - this dog frightens the life outa me !!!
He's harmless - but he just likes to pop his head up and scare you to
bit's.....
Ben the Black Lab...
|
Looks like a harmless Lab to me :-)
noreen...
|
Absolutely Ben now who on earth could be scared of a little old lab;-)
He is keeping guard ! a nice picc too ;-)))

How do you know his name is Spot
John in Cornwall...
Tyke...
|
LOL
He looks as if he is master of all he surveys.
On our walks with the doggies there is a Boxer that lies in wait in a fenced
garden.Right at the last minute he will jump up and bark at you.
Our 3 insane Bedlingtons give him a right chorus back.
Ben the Black Lab...
|
Grin Woof :-)
We're all mad :-)
Tyke...
|
LOL
I did not like to say :-)
Ours are more mad than ever now that Billie has joined us - they w*rk as a
pack now!
Rabbit...
|
I take it that Billie has now settled in OK ? No problems now ?
Tyke...
|
Hmmmm.
Troy's Human...
|
Great read Tyke :-) Nice to know Billy is loved :-)
We've had Ben for over 8 months now. There have been times when I thought
he'd never ever be a normal dog. He's getting better each day :-) His late
puppyhood is passing ....
He loves us more and more each day - as we do him :-)
Time heals all with most problem doggys :-)
|
I reckon that Billy will always have problems,I really feel that he has been
badly mistreated at some time.
I cannot just quite pin down what has happened to him.
He is very timid, especially with strangers. He is very wary of any sudden
movement.Billy is very uncomfortable when you touch him.
If you loom over him he will cower and totally flatten himself to the
ground - I could cry when I see such submission in a dog.
I do know he was kept in a cage most of the time :-(
Rabbit...
|
Oh dear the poor thing won't know what the big wide world is about and the
big wide world can be scary for us adults too. Hopefully he will learn and
enjoy.
|
He has really attached himself with me and follows me all over,if he does
choose to sit by me I evenetually put my hand on him and gently tickle
him, sometimes I turn it into a little massage as well (dog book advises
that)
Rabbit...
|
So how did he react when you were over here? Did he adjust, was he naughty
Tyke...
|
He was not too bad and sought out Mrs Tyke's company more - now I'm back he
is with me again :-)
|
or did he pine?
|
He really does not know how to play normally so he just ignores toys thrown
for him but he is starting to chew on a few toys so there is hope.
The house training is another matter though.Billy is still marking his
territory in the house :-(
Rabbit...
|
That's really a natural inbred instinct though and he has never been taught
otherwise. Like a baby getting potty trained though he'll learn.
|
We have plastic sheeting on the sofas just in case.
I try not to shout and upset him but it is hard.
He will be having a trip to the vet's soon for a little operation.
I've also just started to give him a little Bach's Rescue Remedy as advised
by a Bedlington owner in Singapore, this hopefully will make him feel calmer.
He does get on really well with the other doggies though and loves to be
outside.
Rabbit...
|
Not surprising if he hasn't known *outside* existed before.
|
Billy has put on some weight now and looks normal (well for a Bedlington)
Rabbit...
|
Now that good, he must be happy or he wouldn't eat.
Tyke...
|
He *loves* food,I've never seen a dog get so excited at mealtimes!!!
|
|
As you can see we have a long job on our hands.
We have not ruled out rehoming him if the perfect adoptee came alon though -
they would have to have a small farm or something and be *very* checked out
by me.
I'm not saying we will get rid of him or anything though.
Rabbit...
|
If you do rehome him I'm more than certain you will vet the new owners 'cos
it sounds to me that even with his *problems* you all love him.
Tyke...
|
We do love him very much and will make sure that any new owner is *very*
vetted.
We are not going to push re-homing,it might be that we just meet someone who
could give him a lovely home.
Having 3 doggies is very hard jbex indeed.
|
|
Phew - that was a long reply!

Not at all Russell!! i could cry for the poor little fella especially
cowering to the floor, that would
break my heart;-) but with all the love you are giving him he will get
there.
I know I have told this story before but you may not have seen it .
Years ago because of my Daughter!! and loads of persuading , we took a pup.
She had some border Collie in her but she was the runt of the litter
nervous shook continually if you as much as looked at her, but adored my
Daughter .
I was not happy with her cos she did it anywhere and every were, daren't
chastise her cos of the nerves ,she was a night mare .
At seven months we had got no where with her. I came in one day tired out
and saw piles all over the floor, I totally lost it and I had a newspaper
in my hand and gave her a whack on her bott and said NO she ran outside
cowering !! i was upset.
But the strange thing she never wet even after that it was amazing .
She changed , then she got distemper !! the vet said as he had said before
you will never raise this dog i am afraid .
But then I was determined and said I will. She recovered and lived to 19 yrs
the most loved dog, i got a tear now cos she died a few weeks after my Eric
she fretted for him but also had heart probs ;-)

Rabbit...
