How Many Legs Should a Turkey Have?

I think I've been swizzled! My turkey seems to have only two legs, I
thought they had two legs and two arms - so they can fly and walk.
Mine must have spend its life walking around because it had no arms of
flying around and not being able to land because it had no legs :-)
Rabbit...
|
If it had no legs the prime suspect is a drummer needing drumsticks :-)
uker...
|
& if it had no wings, probably this plain nicked them:
Nicked from another group BTW
noreen...
BunnyHare...
|
Brilliant! Oh and by the way Upsers don't nick, they only borrow :-)))
|
Pam the goose...
|
A brillliant bit of nicking:)
I loved it:)

You've heard of the farmer who bred four-legged turkeys?
When asked what they taste like, he replied, "Dunno, never been able to
catch one!"
andon...
|
I thought a turkey should have one leg for each guest at the table,
but maybe Mrs On has been fooling me all these years so that she
could serve me the all of the breast. I know I can remember my Mother
telling her many years ago that I had always been breat-fed so she
has carried on the tradition ;-)

|
Thankfully we didn't have turkey this year but instead had rib-eye steak,
fried egg, mushrooms, onion rings, grilled tomato and new potatoes - much
more flavoursome than turkey, in my opinion, and a whole lot less hassle.
pmj...
|
OK - That sounds like a nice Breakfast! [*1]
:-)
pmj...
MCC...
|
Nice at any time of day, but as we had it at around 4 p.m. it was our
Christmas Day dinner :-)
|
So what did you have for Lunch then?
:-)
MCC...
|
A mug of soup, same as most other days.
|
[*1]
Except you appear to have forgotten the Baked Beans!
:-)
MCC...
|
Never eat them, not at any time of the day - can't stand them ;-)
Rabbit...
|
Hmmmm, I thought everybody liked baked beans. Beans on toast with a poached
egg on top is perfect after the excesses of the holiday meals, in fact now
that it's been mentioned I might just have that for my tea tonight.
jamps...
|
Yum,Yum! It's also very special with grated cheese on top!
pmj...
I've eaten too much the last couple of days so will have something light for
pmj...
|
When I saw that Sandra said she was going to have Baked Beans on Toast
for Tea I was going to ask if I could come round to her place!
But if you're going to have Baked Beans on Toast *&* Grated Cheese,
then can I come round to your place instead?
:-)
BTW - Yes, I do actually make a point of having Baked Beans with
my Turkey Xmas Dinner!
:-)
Aries...
|
ICK! Where's the sick bag ;)
|
|
tonights meal!
I've a nice big trifle in the fridge so may have some of that! lol
pmj...
|
Oooh!
Is it a Chocolate (& Coffee) Trifle? [*1]
[*]
Chocolate Cake, soaked in Coffee Jelly, covered with Chocolate
Ali...
|
Do you want chocolate sprinkles with that?
:^)
jamps...
|
Grated chocolate would be good!
pmj...
|
Yep!
:-)
& some Chocolate Sauce, p'raps?
:-)
|
I also think that it needs spiking up a bit - dark rum over the chocolate
pmj...
|
Yep - you can soak the Chocolate Cake first, in Creme de Cacao
or Tia Maria
(or better still Kahlua)!...
:-)

cake would be good!
Aries...
|
Now you're talking my language LOL
|
|
|
Blancmange.
With Cream on Top.
Yes please!
I'd love some of that!
:-)
Aries...
|
Ick again - honestly PMJ, don't you ever worry about your arteries ?
jamps...
|
Nothing in that chocolate/coffee trifle that will cause trouble with the
arteries Val unless pmj over-indulges in the cream! lol
pmj...
|
Thankyou!
:-)
So...
Are you going to make a Chocolate & Coffee Trifle then?
& can I come round to your place when you've made it?
You don't need to put all that much Cream on it.
jamps...
|
Still wondering how to make a coffee jelly! :-)
pmj...
|
Well, in addition to the way andon suggested, using Freshly made
Ground Coffee (Filtered, Percolated or Espresso type), you can also
make a perfectly good Coffee Jelly just by making up some Gelatine
in the normal way (adding Hot/Boiling Water to it & stirring well),
then when the Gelatine is *completely* dissolved, just add a few
Teaspoons of ordinary Nescafe Granules (not Gold Blend Granules,
cos they don't dissolve very well) or you can pre-dissolve the
Nescafe by adding it to a small quantity of hot/boiling water.
Of course, you can prolly use other sorts of Coffee Granules, not
just Nescafe, but I find Nescafe is best for those sort of things.
It's also very good for making up a nice Iced Coffee as well.
& for Coffee Icing (Glace or Butter Icing) to go on a Chocolate
(or Coffee) Cake!
:-)
Or for making a sort of rich "Coffee Essence" to pour over Ice Cream.
:-)
BTW - You can also still get that "Camp Coffee Essence" in the tall
Bottles, which is actually Coffee & Chicory.
As shown here...
& here...
It was originally made by a firm called R. Paterson & Sons of Glasgow
(founded in 1849), they merged with Jenks Bros (founded in 1961) in
1974 & Schwartz (the Spices firm) became a subsidiary of them in 1980
The firm then became Paterson Jenks PLC & was merged with (bought up by)
McCormick Foods
East Lane
Paisley
PA1 1QB
Scotland
& (on the Bottle it says) their Head Office is...
Thame Road
Haddenham
Buckinghamshire
HP17 8LB
England
But I can't find Camp Coffee Essence shown on their WebSite...
But I did find some Pages on there detailing some of the Brands that
they own...
McCormick & Company, Inc
McCormick (UK) Ltd.
McCormick (UK) Plc - McCormick Foods
Sainsbury's & Tesco's (& also some of the other Supermarket Chains)
sell Camp Coffee Essence.
|
andon...
|
Brew a fresh jug of coffee and then use this to
pour into a bowl with plain gelatine (instead of
flavoured jelly and hot water). Make sure that
you filter the coffee extra well so as to avoid
any grounds. HTH
|
|
Oh - If you use a (sliced up) Chocolate Swiss Roll as the Cake bit
in it, that usually has a nice sort of Creamy Icing type Filling,
which is nice.
:-)
& while you're at it, (with the Chocolate Swiss Rolls), p'raps you'd
also like to make a "Yule Log"?
Cut the Chocolate Swiss Roll into 1/3 - 2/3 & form a sort of "Branch"
with it like this (best Viewed in a Fixed-Width Font)...

Then carefully Coat/Smother it with Chocolate (or Coffee) Butter Icing,
sprinkle on a light dusting of Icing Sugar & see how long that lasts!
:-)

jamps...

It's sherry trifle with raspberries on the base. Too generous with the
sherry though 'cos the sponges are almost floating! :-)
I've never come across coffee jelly - sounds good.

thank goodness I left most of the naughty goodies I made back in Devon with
my daughter LOL But I did bring home a quarter of the luscious Christmas
cake so we will tuck into that over the next few days - goes luverly with a
cup of tea :)

We had a cat years ago who loved baked bean in tomato sauce - cold -
straight from the tin. Mind you he was a funny animal - liked seedless
Rabbit...
|
My husband used to do that. He'd open a can of beans for beans and toast and
was lucky if three quarters of the can got out the tin except straight into
noreen...
|
I am glad somebody else did that !!!! I always had to have a spoonful out of
a tin cold !!loved them ;-))))0
BoyPete...
|
I put baked beans in a mixed salad sometimes :)
Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°5 +...
|
That's not as bad as we had in the Uni refectory. They put gravy on the
lettuce of a salad. :(

his mouth, cold.

grapes too - so long as you peeled them for him first. :)

Yuk and double yuk.
Aries...

ick and double ick LOL
Rabbit...
|
Not another one ? I've never known three ( so far) people who didn't like
beans on toast.
Aries...
|
I don't mind baked beans now and again but certainly not on toast with an
egg on top:( Baked beans go quite well with frankfurters tho :)
Pam the goose...
|
Can't beat beans on toast for a quick, satisfying meal!
Aries...
|
But the beans make the toast all soggy :( I like my toast crisp :)
jamps...
|
I call them sausages! Excellent with baked beans!
|
Pam the goose...
|
You aren't eating them fast enough:)))
|
|
We often have them as a veg with sausage and chips, too.
Rabbit...
|
IMHO you *can't* have sausage and chips without beans, they go together like
peaches and cream :-)
Ali...
|
You can have cream without peaches, you know!
Or peaches without cream - fresh from the punnet.
|
Pam the goose...
|
I'd rather have the sausage/chips/beans than the peaches and
cream thanks.
Cream is something we got in the parcels from America and my
Mum was *so* pleased I didn't like it. Her Mum had a dairy
when my Mum was young and my Mum was addicted to cream which
wasn't available when I was little. She always had my share
of the Merkin stuff:)
|
|
But not the egg for me, thanks. Had too many of them as a
youngster when meat was rationed and my Mum's friend gave us
eggs from her hens. I was the only little one around who
regularly had eggs and grew up with the feeling it was wrong
to eat them cos it was "different".
Silly me!
|
|
|
|
Rabbit...
|
You don't like beans either ??? It's just about the first instant meal,
healthy too except for the extra sugar and salt and chemicals but hey what
isn't nowadays.
PS I presume you haven't tried the Heinz beans in Mexican, Tikka, Jalfrezi
and Chilli sauce ? Neither have I actually 'cos those I really don't fancy,
in fact I prefer supermarket own brand beans in tomato sauce which might
surprise Heinz :-)
|
|
noreen...
|
Now I haven't had any tea yet Sandra and I think i fancy that too !! I do
love beans ;-)))))
