They acknowledged my order the following day and debited by bank account on
the 12th. Delivery was due in 7 - 10 days but allow up to 28.

Go to a shop, do you remember shops? Allow 28 minutes.

What's the matter with you people? Have computers and the Internet
addled your brains? Just because you _can_ buy things over the Internet
that doesn't mean you _should_ buy things over the Internet. Isn't that
obvious even before you get swindled?

No good in my case Frederick. All the local - and not so local dealers
told me that the parts I wanted were obsolete and no longer available, as
did the manufacturer Hoover.

I take it you don't live in a small village in Cornwall where there is only
one grocery shop cum post office and the nearest clothes shops are 10 miles
away?

When I got those parts for my 1982 model Hoovermatic Twintub from from
partmaster.co.uk the service was excellent. The 'obsolete' drive belt was
in stock and delivered within 36 hours, and the washtub lid had to be
ordered from the manufacturer by partmaster. The lid arrived within 10
days, and neither item was debited for from my CC account until about 3
days after I had received them.

Second paragraph, actually the third sentence, of their T&C's.
"Please note your card will be charged for the full value of your order
on authorisation. Your goods will then be despatched as soon as
possible, subject to availablilty."
And not unusual for an e-commerce trader.

It would definitely put me off Cotton Traders.
The cheek of it!
I would have cancelled, too.
