It's been a cold wet windy orrible day today.
pmj...
|
Yep - it's been Wet & Windy down here, but it's definitely not
been Cold!!!
The Temperature outside, overnight, has been between 19 & 20 Degrees
Centigrade all night!
|
This got me thinking, winters on it's way and I'm used
to going out in all weathers to do the paid for stuff.
BunnyHare...
|
Gosh Wally there's lots to do, you just have to find something that
interests you. I don't know how I had time to go to the paid employment
thingy!
I do a lot of things through the U3A but there are other places to find
out about hobbies
Then of course you could always spend all day in front of the computer
:-)))
|
Well that isn't going to happen this year as I'm now
retired, but what am I going to do on all those cold
winter evenings (and days)??
Ali...
|
Make more use of your computer!
Is there nothing you've been saying "I'll do that when I get a round tuit"
about?
Your ancestors? local history? read War and Peace? or the complete works of
Terry Pratchett?
|
Rabbit...
|
Ask your better half. I'd be surprised if she hasn't got a list of jobs in
the house that you never got a round tuit for :-)
|
Been trying to think of a hobby I could take up but all
the stuff that I'm interested in involves being outside.

You could keep your brain in gear by trying the general knowledge xword
puzzles in some of the newspapers. Most of 'em have prizes on offer. The
Saturday DT is fiendishly hard.
One of the next things on my list is to sort out 20 years of photographs,
followed by catalogging all my CDs. I was going to do that last year
Anita...
|
ohhh I catalogued 800 cassettes for Ron took a few weeks - but is great
when it is finished.
pmj...
|
What Software do you use for doing that?
Do you use a dedicated Cataloging thing?
or a general sort of Datbase Application?
Or just a SpreadSheet?
|
Have yet to catalogue his CDs - but might show him how to use excel and
let him do it himself :)
pmj...
|
Ah - so you use a SpreadSheet then?
How well do you find it is for actually *using* (accessing) the Data?
I know that SpreadSheets such as M$ Excel (& Lotus 123 etc,) are
OK for basic lists & things but when you've got loads of Info about
things such as CDs, Cassettes, Records (or Books or even Names,
Addresses & Phone Numbers etc) to Catalog, then a SpreadSheet gets
a bit limiting - you can easily (or not so easily, depending on how
much you like Entering all the Info & how you lay it out) end up with
all the Info having been Typed into it, but then often, it's not really
very practical or much use (or easy to use), when it comes to actually
*doing* things with the info - I know several people who have tried
to do things like Cataloging their Record/CD Collections & have ended
up not actually *using* the Info, once they've entered it all in,
(other than to possibly just Print the whole lot out) cos it's too
awkward to use on a general basis.
|
|
too......
|
What do you others do on a cold winters night ?
(well at least the things you can talk about on here) :o))
Rabbit...
|
You've got a pooter there is a whole world of stuff out there and help in
here to find something which would interest you. Making a web page ? Family
history? Using something like PSP to bring out the artist in you or clean up
those old family piccies, revive your youth playing the nostalgic old
console games, convert all your favourite music to MP3s etc.
|
pmj...
|
Well, you've got a PC & an Internet Connection, haven't you?
:-)
You could make a Hobby of that!
:-)
You could get to know how it works & how to make it do all sorts
of different things.
|
Aries...
|
Can you sing? You could join a choir?
Get yourself a copy of PSP or Paintshop Pro and learn how to make
interesting graphics? Lots of free tuts on the web for beginners :)
Decorate the inside of the house ?
Jigsaw puzzles are fun to do and good for the brain too
Spend more time on the puter ?
|
My wife Knits, sews, reads books and stuff like that but
nothing that I would like to take up.
I don't like watching television unless there is a really good
film on, which isn't very often.
Heeelllpp, I'm going to go mad by next spring.

Well what is wrong with a man taking up knitting Wally ?
what about some of that DIY that you have always been going to do
but never had the time ;-))))

Rabbit...
|
Oh too late, you can't blame that on retirement :-)

|
How can I make a website about something I dont have yet ??
pmj...
|
You could make actually building the website the Hobby!
:-)
|
|
Or learning how to build computers at least you don't need a chain saw for
that.
JoeH...
|
LOL - sometimes, when you have problems, you want to chainsaw one I can
assure you shaz

Wally...
BoyPete...
|
Oh, and you don't holiday in the same place twice eh? :)

Hiya wally. I started watercolour painting. Still not very good but, there
is a pleasure and relaxation in just getting the paints out and putting
brush to paper. does'nt have to be any good. just the shear plesure of the
colour. I mainly just paint odd objects. The corner of the garden...a potted
plant...a flower...anything at all. It need not be a landscape or any of the
ussuall stuff......Just paint and enjoy being a kid again.

Write a book. NaNoWriMo is coming up in November so you've got a couple of
months to plan for it then write, write, write. Of course once November's
out of the way there's nothing to stop you from continuing.
|
|
I don't think I could get on with that.
Wally
Smokey...
|
Och you would Wally , just choose one for leisure and pleasure, no exams.
I do a digital media one, using Adobe photoshop. It's great fun
