My TV is HDTV ready but HDTV is still not available.
Yesterday I downloaded an update for DivX to
handle HDTV, and with it a short animation.
I confess, the animation was marvellous. Sound was
not up to much, neither was the story, but the picture quality

was spectacular.I cannot give a website should you wish
to get it sorry since it came as an update for programme
I already have. You would have to download DivX first.
The film itself is about 500 Meg so dial-up is out of the question.
Sorry.
One wet day when I'm stuck indoors I'll connect the computer
up to the TV to see it on the big wide screen, a free reality test!
I'll keep you informed (Unless you already have it, of course).

I'd be interested, I'm in the process of convincing myself about HDTV -
hoping that quality will out-weigh content :-(
Saxman...

I'm convinced. My HDTV has brighter colours. Even without HD pictures
the quality is better. True wide screen is much better to watch. The
sound is not so good, owing to the small speakers used. I'll buy a
surround sound system next time they are in Aldi.

Unfortunately, it seems that in far too many cases the Picture Quality
*does* (far) exceed the Quality of the actual Content!!!
Surely, if the Content of the Programme you are watching is worth
watching, then it shouldn't really matter all that much if the
(Technical) Quality/Definition etc) of the Pic isn't absolutely
perfect.
Ordinary TV seems fine for getting the stuff across, (if it's worth
watching in the first place) doesn't it?
Jeff Gaines...
|
Yes, to a great extent. I still get a far better picture from commercial
DVD's on an ordinary W/S TV than I do from Sky though, and I wouldn't mind
having the TV 'catch up'.
|
I fear that the push towards all this HD stuff (from the very mediocre
TV Stations & Film Studios) is just their attempt to cover up for the
abysmal Quality of the actual content!
But making (& Transmitting & Displaying) High Definition Rubbish
doesn't miraculously turn the Rubbish into stuff worth watching,
does it?
Jeff Gaines...
|
My point exactly.
I don't want to miss Kes (who is apparently an oompah loompah in Star Trek
Voyager) in her high definition glory though :-)

I do so agree with you, pmj. But then our first TV was the old 450 lines
(is that right) and do you know what, I had to get up out of my easy chair
Frogman...

It was actually 405 lines Sam :-)
pmj...

LOL!!!
You are really pmj!
:-)
& I claim my Prize!
Frogman...

lol, I've been called some things in my time but to be called pmj must
be the highest accolade of all :-)

and walk across the room to change channels.
I was very pleased when the new 625 line sets were brought out
and I soon got one.
So, you never know do you ?
Sam.
