Old Grizzly...
I purchased a Nikon Digital SLR D70 Camera about a year ago, registered
it with them etc. This morning i got an email from saying i might have a
faulty Li-eon rechargeable battery and giving batch numbers for me to

Tickettyboo...

That page gives a UK number if you need assistance

Batteries that bear the manufacturing batch identification numbers found
in the published list should be returned to Nikon for replacement,
Assistance with completing the procedure can be obtained by calling Nikon
at the dedicated national number +44 (0) 2871 305 500.

JoeH...
But don't a lot of "UK" numbers simply *divert* to whichever call
centre is dealing with it? That's my experience anyway. :-(

Old Grizzly...
That was the number Boo. I guessed it was going to be a problem as soon as i
smelt Joss sticks burning :-)

check. I did have one, and they say it *might* catch fire. Reporting it
to them was truly a pain as i had to speak to the call centre in the
land of elephants i guess as it was not a nice pain free conversation as
i am not very good understanding *English*.
The end of it is this, they will send me an envelope in 10-14 working
days so i can return it, then in 5-7 working days i will receive a
replacement. I protested that they are telling me not to use my camera
and that i might be without it for up to 4 weeks!! and the reply was
very very sorry sahib... oops sorry the answer was yep that tuf mate!.
Not good enough was my reply :)

Old Grizzly...
A postman arrived at the door this morning with a package, knocked and
asked me if i knew the person it was addressed to as the name was
nothing like mine! it said Lemet Bgsom (Leonard Dyson) it was addressed
to Briston, and the post code was wild. I said to the postie well as its
my address, well the road was spelt strange, i can open it and see and
he agreed and it was a package from Nikon. I KNEW that they were not
understanding me and i was right.. I was worried that the new battery
might not arrive if that was the address they would use so i rang Nikon
to complain and when they looked at the computer record they agreed and
were going to have words.

Pingu...
Ive Had my own Nikon experience lately. On saturday, My car was broken into,
and a concealed Camera case was nicked! Nikon F80, with 24mm, 28-80mm zoom
and an 80 to 210mm zoom lenses are all gone. Not to mention a pair of Rayban
sunglasses and a CD disk.

Tickettyboo...
aww that's rotten Pingu, hope that your insurance will be able to replace
them for you.

Rabbit...
asking if your house contents insurance covered them. Do you know if they
are?

Pingu...
Ive not spoken to them yet. I doubt I will.

Foxy at w**k...
Oh dear sad to hear that Pingu

Pingu...
Just had a call from the community police officer for that area, shes been
dealing with loads of similar cases lately and is pushing to have signs
there warning cars not to park there.

Foxy at w**k...
Good idea

Jeff Gaines...
Marvellous crime prevention. Of course, if you don't buy a car it can't
be stolen, if you don't buy a camera it can't be stolen. I guess in 50
years they will advise people to not have any personal effects and to
sleep in the open - which will prevent their house being broken into.

Rabbit...
Have you attended the Sceptics and Cynics Anonymous ( UPS branch) meeting
Jeff ? Come along to the conservatory and meet like minded people but arrive
early it gets very crowded :-)

What have the government done with the billions of extra taxes in the
last 7 years?

Rabbit...
Spent them on paper and red tape ?

MCC...
Sticky fingered little b*st*rds.
Will your insurance cover you?

MCC...

Pingu...
Probebly. But Im not claiming motor insurance. This is due to not having
insurance in my own name for 14 years, but managed to get 4 years N.C.D with
letter from my previous employer.I want to wait till I get 5 years N.C
discount and the documentation to go with it.
At least they did the decent thing in telling you that there might be a
problem with that batch of batteries, Len.
Hopefully the replacement will give you trouble-free photography.

Old Grizzly...
Yes of course, but it really was so much hassle. I am registered with
them so they have ALL my details but she insisted i give them to her
again to record it as an incident and speaking as clearly as i could she

Old Grizzly...
Thats one of my questions to them and the answer was no! :(

got just about everything wrong and more than once :(

Graham...
The problem is only a theoretical one, I've not come across a cases

Old Grizzly...
Not a nice experience at all, hope its recoverable in reality or with
insurance

in any photo news group where there has been a problem... I would

MCC...
You mean you don't speak Hindi, Gujerati, Tamil, Punjabi etc., etc?
You do surprise me, Len
These overseas call centres are a right royal pain in the posterior :-(

Old Grizzly...
I speak all of them but only with an english accent LOL

JoeH...

Old Grizzly...
Thats what seemed to happen to me. The phone rings and stops, then another
phone rings etc untill you end up in a hot country :-)

Graham...
Email Nikon UK and tell them that you are going away on the trip of a
lifetime and really need the battery... try to melt their hearts with
a little constructive fibbing ;-)

JoeH...
......and *don't* mention your aversion to joss sticks ;-)

Graham...
Perhaps I should have advised Len to curry favour with Nikon? ;-)

JoeH...
You just won't tikka telling will you Graham? ;-)
ROFLMHO no wonder you enjoyed Leeds then Len ;-)

carry on using the batteries but check every so often to make sure
they aren't getting warm. From what I can make out it *could* happen
under sustained continuous use.
Try calling Nikon UK direct, they have during the last recall sent
out new batteries with an envelope for the return of the old ones.
Luckily none of my batteries were included in either recall.

datasmog...
Methinks thou does protest too much? The D70 comes with an alternative
battery case that holds three rechargable CR2 cells. For those emergency
moments out in the field when that once in a lifetime shot comes up and
the battery dies?
At least, mine did. :-)
And my battery serial number isn't on the list, so neah neah neah to you
:-)
But seriously, look in the box.

Old Grizzly...
Well they are about a fiver each and yes there is a receptable for them
but as they say they are for emergency only i wonder if they would last
me for an afternoons use.
So glad your batts are not on the list .....Jack LOL
