Jeff Gaines...
Watching the Discovery Channel about the A380 Airbus. The test pilots were
tasked with getting it close to mach 1. It started vibrating like mad
(expected) and bits fell off!

Trouble is they didn't seem to make any changes before they did the test a
second time so can't tell if the problem is fixed. Got some guts these
test pilots.

datasmog...
I had a car like that once, Hillman Avenger. You didn't have to go all
that fast before bits fell off.

Steve...

Foxy at w*rk...
Wasn't there a Triumph Sunbeam ???
I had an Avenger Tiger as my third car

lasted 3 months before I two pistons through the cylinder head!

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
I preferred the Sunbeam Tiger.

datasmog...
We used to drag race one of those. It eventually had the 289cu in small
block Ford V8 (4.7ltrs) with a large 4 barrel Holly carb and a whole
host of special race innards. The original car was 4.2ltrs.
At one time it had 2 x 4 barrel Carter carbs and I vividly recall racing
along the M1 between J5 and 6 around Watford one night at over 150mph.
Purely for testing purposes officer.
The noise was awsome and the fuel consumption was about 5mpg.

I think my cousin still has the car.

The protypes had an american V8 engine and automatic gearbox. The
production cars were all manual though. I was driven once in one of the
prototypes. When you floored the accelerator it felt like you were about to
lift off in a jet airplane. In the early 1960s there was a US airforce
establishment in South Ruislip and the americans just loved the Tigers.
Trouble was they couldn't keep them on the road in wet weather. The local
Rootes dealers got loads of w*rk carrying out accident repairs. :)

Steve...
The only Sunbeam I had was the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus, red and black
lovely car, it went round corners like it was on rails. Shame I had to

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
Don't think so, unless it was very old, before the Rootes group took over
the Sunbeam marque along with Humber, Hillman and Singer.

sell it.

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
One of these then!

Steve...
Yep that's it, I then went onto a Triumph Dolomite Sprint (wrote that
off in a 3 car pile up) and then I had a Triumph Stag which I shoehorned
a Rover 3500 V8 into, went like billy oh but was a dog in the corners.
Sold that for a very respectable profit.

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
I loved the Stag. Don't think they made that many though:

Remember the Daimler Dart?

Foxy at w*rk...
I had one I had one. For about 6 weeks :-)

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
Why on earth let it go after only 6 weeks?
Didn't you like it's colour? Did it clash with your favourite outfit? :)

Foxy at w*rk...
It was stollen :-(

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
Well I did say I really liked them. But it wasn't me that nicked it. :(

Jeff Gaines...
They don't make 'em like they used to, thank goodness :-)

Just how close to Mach 1 do they expect an A380 to go? I had no idea it
was going to be that quick, I thought it was supposed to be an economy
wagon.

Jeff Gaines...
They were around 0.9x, it's not intended to be supersonic but I think they
needed to set its parameters for its licence.
