I was watching Corrie earlier and the lights dimmed for about ½ second.

Our local paper shop has had ghosts and ghouls in it for a couple of months
now. :)

Sometimes if I watch Corrie for about ½ second, the lights appear to dim
;-)

So true doesn't it make you feel your age?

Unfortunately, that happens almost daily :-(

I was talking to someone over the weekend about how pennies (1D that is)
used to make your hands smell awfull if you held them for any length of
time. Can you remember ?

I remember clutching about 2 dozen of these things whilst carefully
selecting which machines I was going to win on. It took a couple of
days to get rid of the green stains ;-)

Oh yes and they made your hands very dirty :-(

Seriously, a dip in voltage can cause a discharge lamp to extinguish,
they sometimes then need to cool a little before they can re-strike. I
can't explain the battery operated clock, though.
Splodge's suggestion sounds favourite ;-)

Well nope I didn't touch a drop until half way through Prime Suspect by
which time the lights had dimmed and the street light opposite had gone out
and come on again twice more. It affected next door's lights too. Their TV
picture was affected too, but mine wasn't. I know about the disccharge
lamps needing to cool before they can strike again - that's what was so
funny. When it came on again it was immediately at full intensity whereas
they usually have to warm up and get brighter after re-striking.

With my current evening discos I dashed up to the computer to see if there

had been just then. Then the panic started. There was a piercing constant
high pitched squeal emanating from the front bedroom. It was ear
piercing - like a continuous smoke alarm. But other than the lighting there
is nothing electrical/electronic in there. I went through all the rooms and
it was really only audible in the front bedroom. Then I noticed the high

pressure sodium streetlight opposite the house was out. Looked up and down
the street - all the other lights were on. I methodically turned off
everything that was switched on. Still the ear piercing squeal. At last I
found it. The small button battery driven digital alarm clock I haven't
used for about 10 years, but kept on the bedside table in the spare front
bedroom. The alarm is switched off, and the only reason I keep it w*rking
is that it has a 100 year calendar on it which is useful for quickly finding
out what day a certain day was in the past or will be in the future, if you

know what I mean. Then I looked up and the streetlight was on again at
full brightness. It's happened again twice this evening and street light
has gone out and come on again, with the internal house lamps dimming. I
wonder if this has anything to do with my evening disconnections? Also,
what triggered the alarm clock to emit a constant piercing squeal for 10 -
15 minutes? Weird!!!!

That's very odd. If that happened in my place I'd be reaching for a bottle
of something:))
