and disappears as quickly again but I don't get to see the file ? I first

You need to give it time to download.
Many PDF Files can be quite large & the Server they are on may be
quite slow, so it takes a while to Download

When this prob happens, is the "AcroRd32.exe" Process Running?
& what Processing Time is it taking up?

datasmog...
Your install of Acrobat reader was probably borked in some way. The file
in question was created with Acrobat 5 in 2004, so it's quite old and
should open in any subsequent version.
As you've discovered.

noticed this a couple of days ago on a web page. I can download the pdf file
on a web page by right clicking and saving but obviously not from a link in

It isn't "obvious" (to us) at all!!!
:-)

You *should* be able to do it (equally well) from a Link in a News
Post, an eMail or in a Web Page.

But there are several Settings which will have an effect on how all
that sort of thing works...

First of all, I would suggest *Un*Ticking the Option (in Adobe Acrobat
Reader) which they say "Enables Web Browser Integration" - that causes
lots of people loads of hassle.

Menu>Edit>Preferences...>Internet

[ ] Display PDF in Browser

& in the Internet Explorer Options, on the Advanced Tab, make sure
that you don't have 3rd Party Browser Extensions Enabled...

[ ] Enable 3rd Party Browser Extensions.

Many SpyWare/AdWare things such as Search ToolBars & all sorts of
Browser Hijacking things can get on, if that's Enabled, but you may
have some 3rd Party things that you *do* want to allow.
So you have to decide for yourself, if it's worth the risk.

Also, make sure that you have:

[ ] Reuse Browser Windows for launching Shortcuts

*Un*Ticked

& in the (windoze) Explorer Folder Options, look on the File Types
Tab & Scroll down to the .PDF File Extension (which is prolly listed
as Type: "Adobe Acrobat Document")

Select it & Click [Advanced...]
Make sure that there's a Tick in:

[/] Confirm Open after Download

Try those, to begin with & post back if you still have probs.

Also, have a look in the "Manage Add-Ons" Options in Internet Explorer.
& see what's what in there.
Make sure things are Set how they should be, for safe & efficient
Browsing.

That happened to me too. It opened OK on the third attempt.

a post or mail.

Absolutely not a problem here :-)

John the R-T...
Same thing happened to me some weeks ago. I now use the free Foxit
Reader. Far smaller and quicker than Adobe Reader.

Rabbit...
Too late now :-( BUT I'll save that for my new installation 'cos it looks
good. You don't happen to have the Real and Quicktime Player alternatives
too do you ? If so can you recommend them and do you have the URL please.

John the R-T...
'fraid not.

Rabbit...
Never mind maybe somebody else has :-)
