Is this the end of free banking as we know it?

I rang them this morning to ask why their customers have to hear this first
from the news bulletins.
LOL "We are experiencing an increase in number of calls"

If the fees are apllicable to my accounts, I see a lot of disruption
looming - Bummocks.

Baldrick...
I also heard this first on the BBC news this morning ........ Five minutes
later, the postman dropped a letter thru' my door with a letter from FD.
I'll be looking for a new bank in the new year !

A lot of people rely on a bank account to receive pensions and benefits etc
and will not be able to maintain the £1500 min balance that FD are asking
for - Yet another money making scheme from the, already super-rich banks !

MCC...
The bu**ers! I've been with them for about 20 years, ever since they first
started up.

I've had nothing but good service from them but if they insist on going
ahead with this scheme then I shall be voting with my feet.

I've just spoken to them too. Seems the customers they want to lose are
those who opened accounts to take advantage of the start-up offers, have
never transferred their banking to First Direct, and their accounts are now
dormant.

I was once again assured that I would not be charged for my banking.

So that's OK then, I'm alright, Jack, pull up the gangway

linedancer...
The people that it could hit are the poor pensioners who opted to have their
pension paid into the bank, it's just another worry for them.

I wonder if the other banks will follow suit :-(

MCC...
Got my letter from First Direct just now - post can be very late out here
in the sticks :-)

I have a current account and and e-savings account with First Direct. Their
letter states:

In recent months you have met the requirements to avoid paying the banking
fee. As long as you continue to operate your account(s) in this way you are
unlikely to have to pay this fee and you can continue day-to-day banking
for free.

Until, I suppose, they move the goal posts again :-)
I've been with them for about 15 years Mike. I mentioned this to the staff
at HSBC today and they knew nothing about it.
Next thing for me to do is find out if the £1500 per month relates to each
individual account. Methinks I shall be doing the same as you.

Have you had your letter from First Direct, Jan? It explains things quite
well. Current accounts in different names will be subject to the charge but
several current accounts in the same name will only have the charge applied
to one.
However, if you have a balance of £1500 each month, a savings account or
take out any of their other 'products' like insurance, mortgage etc., you
can bank free of charge (I think )

Splodge...
No letter yet Mike, but then, your surname starts with C and mine is B lol

Actually, I'd quite like one of their credit cards. I've recently applied to
GE Money and Yorkshire Bank for a card and been turned down by them both.
It's either because I moved 14 months ago, or they don't like me paying my
accounts every month:((

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
Probably the latter, but there's talk of CC companies bringing back the
annual fee, 'cos their profits aren't large enough, any more. :(

Splodge...
I suppose it's good of them to give a verdict in their letter. I'll wait
very patiently for my letter.
B does come after Z doesn't it?
