Does anyone know if neurologists use cell/mobile phones?
I am thinking of getting my first, but as I'm pretty dotty already
I thought I would make sure that they are safe first.

They transmit radio frequencies quite close to your brain :-)
Sensible people do not stand near radio transmitting aerials, I was
specifically warned about it on my radio course for the boat - mind you
that was a 25 Watt transmitter.

And what about the radiation coming off a telly ? I'm not sure if a monitor

A certain amount of electromagnetic radiation is neccessary to fulfill its
essential purpose, but does any other get through the shielding, and the
metre or more of air between the telly and the viewer?

he very esrly microwave ovens leaked microwave radiation and this was the
cause of cataracts (among other disorders) in people who were regularly
exposed to this leaked radiation. I remember the old story of two young
typists in an office somewhere in the USA developing cataracts -- one in the
left eye, the other in the right. Apparently their boss had installed a
microwave oven in the office so that the staff could quickly prepare hot
lunch snacks. The oven had been positioned between the desks of the two
unfortunate typists. I believe that the radiation containment of microwave
ovens is now vastly improved. Microwave radiation is another name for very
short wave radio waves. I don't know what wavelengths mobile phones operate
on, but I guess that they aren't very different from that radiation
produced by microwave ovens, albeit phone radiation will be of much lower
energy.

is the same but I can't see why not.

I think the difficulty we have nowadays is that we don't know if we are
being told it is safe because it is or because the government made a
fortune out of selling the spectrum and don't want to upset the
companies they sold it to.

I vote for the second. There will be an extraordinary meeting of Sceptics
and Cynics Anonymous ( UPS branch) in the conservatory in a few minutes :-)

Thank you Wally,Boy pete,jeff gaines,Rabbit,Ali,FN, and *irVivor
for your erudite replies.
On balance I think I will continue to deny myself the convenience.
Isn't there a saying 'we don't miss what we never had'?Or have I just
made it up?
Whatever, I am obliged to you all.

They may or may not be safe Sam depending on what
you do with them.
Try jumping from an aeroplane using a mobile phone as
a parachute, then they are not safe.
Seriously though, no one can prove one way or the other if
they do any harm or not, I have been using one for a number
of years now so maybe they do send you a bit mad :o))
