I'm sure that this has been asked about before.
My MIL will hopefully coming down here with us for some R&R.
She will need the obligatory travel insurance but I seem to remember that
insurers will not give more than 6 weeks if the client is 80 years or
over.I'm not sure how long she is stopping yet but I think it will be a
minimum of 6 weeks.
We will be already struggling due to MIL's illness but we really need to
organise insurance.
I will be purchasing it in the UK while I'm visiting as I think you have to
have the insurance from the point of origin.
Any companies recommended here by regular posters????
Thanks for any help in advance. :-)

there's a specialist one I point people towards which arranges cover for
diabetes patients who often get refused elsewhere. You could approach
them and see if they can tailor make a policy that suits with their
underwriters.
They specialise in that sort of thing, email diabetes@heathlambert.com
and ask them about it.

I've not used them but a friend has for her father to Canada
cater for the mature. BTW these specialist ones aren't always the cheapest
or best but Tesco
get some good press for insurance quotes. I don't know personally but it's
worth a look.

Hi Russell, you might try 'Age Concern', they insured my Mum. But that
was for a short trip to Canada. Worth a try, though.
'Saga' is another option.
Good luck :o)

I believe it was saga that I insured my mother with and when I phoned up to
extend it - they did so at no extra cost :)

Try Lloyds TSB. My wife and I (70's) have annual worldwide insurance with
them but I did not ask if they had an option for longer periods than 30
days. You have to do it by phone. It tends to be a long call but they have a
freephone number 0800 072 3321

I forget which insurance company we used - but when my mother went to Spain
to stay with my sister, she was insured for 6 weeks - she stayed 10 weeks I
renewed her insurance from here just before the 6 weeks were up. It was
accepted with no problem.
Wish you luck :))

But do ask whoever you insure it with - if they will extend it if she
decides to stay longer than 6 weeks once she is out there:)

Can you post back if you managed to get your MIL insured and who with. Most
companies do not take over 75's and others are now very sticky on existing
medical conditions. The problem is now that it is all done by matching
medical conditions by computer without any regard for their severity.
