jamps...
You were looking to see whether or not the Nero Info Tool
recognised whether or not there was a Blank (empty, ReWritable)
CD in the Drive that is the ReWriter Drive.

This showed there was an empty CD in the drive.

pmj...
Good!
So that means that the System (the Drivers & stuff) *is* recognising
the CD as being a Blank CD...

& also, you were going to have a look in the Event Log Viewer
thingy (in Control Panel>Administrative Tools), to see what the
IMAPI Service had been doing.

Didn't see any reference to the IMAPI Service.

pmj...
Oh!
:-(

Make sure to look in the "system" Event Log - & not the "Application"
or "Security" Logs (yet!)

You're looking for Entries which have a "Source" of "Service Control
Manager" - there are lots of them, but if you look at them, you'll
see the ones for the IMAPI Service.

You could try using:

Menu>View>Find...
or
Menu>View>Filter...

Either (or both!) of those might make it a bit easier to see
what's what.

There were lots of Red circles with a white cross showing an error in cdram

jamps...
Control Panel - Admin Tools - Event Viewer - System - Service Control
Manager --
"The IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service entered the running state".

pmj...
Great!
That's what it should do, at each & every Boot Up.
& also when you Insert a Blank CD.
& also when yo uactually Burn the Files to CD
It should then (after a while) stop Running

I was looking for the IMAPI as the Source and should have looked for the
'Service Control Manager' :-(

pmj...
Yep, but don't worry! - There's (*loads* of Info in there & it
takes a little while to get used to it.

pmj...
Can you Post up the Event Number?

jamps...
Event Numbers 7035 - The Background Intelligence Service entered the running

pmj...
Actually that's "BITS - Background Intelligent *Transfer* Service"

pmj...
OK, fine.
But that's nothing to do with any of this CD Burning lark - that's
used (by the windoze Operating System) for handling Downloading
of things like Updates (in the Background)

state.
& 7036 - The Remote Access Conection Manager service entered the running

pmj...
& that, also is nothing to do with the CD Burning stuff.
that's used for handling Dial Up Connections & things like that.
It's not really needed, when you're on Broadband, with a Cable
Modem, but it doesn't do any harm so we don't need to worry about that
at the mo.
:-)

pmj...
Have a look through that Event Log for some more of the "IMAPI"
Entries & check to see whether it's Starting up OK, each time
that it should (you will see a thing about "The IMAPI Service was
successfully sent a Start Control" & then *also*, there should
be an Entry which says it has actually Started & then (a bit later)
Stopped).

state.

& also the actual Text of the Error?

that may Help us to track the prob down.
