I disagree with some of the movies chosen. How about you?
Rabbit...
|
I haven't heard of at least a third of them. I'm surprised * Grease* isn't
on it 'cos I thought that was now a classic.
|
I can name a few that didn't make the list that are my favorites.
Example "The Quiet Man." Only one of many.
Frederick Williams...
|
The Duellists and Stevie Smith.
There's some utter trash in the list.

That is a long time favourite John it was on Telly just a couple of weeks
ago.
A friend of mine was about 9 when that film was made in her village and all
the
villagers were extras, she remembers John Mills was a lovely man and would
play with the kids
often.;-)))))

Rabbit...

For me it would be *Mr Holland's Opus*

Who was the numpty who put Its A Wondeful Life at number 20 ???
Its the bestest ever film in the whole wide world!

Ali...

I have to admit I'd never heard of their third choice 'Chinatown'.
I looked it up on IMDB in case it was just the title I'd forgot, but the
plot summary doesn't ring any bells.
Now everyone's going to come in and say it was a classic.
Frederick Williams...
|
It is certainly well-known.

I agree with the choice of "Casablanca" as #1.
Noel Coward's "Brief Encounter" (1945) wasn't
on the list. That's a wonderful old classic with Trevor Howard.
It's one of the few movies I don't mind watching over and
over again.
Another movie I loved was "The Enchanted Cottage" with
Dorothy McGuire and Robert Young (1945).
They just don't make movies like that anymore.

I remember those too Joy some good ones there , but as you say they don't
make them
like that anymore ;-)))

West Stand Bowler...

The quiet man is one of my favourites also John.
Victor Mclaglen who played Will Danaher certainly lived a full life.
Did you know he was English ?

Hi WSB: I didn't know Mclaglen was English. He was always in
good movies. I loved Gunga Din with Mclaglen & even though
the first time I saw The Quiet Man it was in a theater in Bristol
sitting with a girl in the back row I was lucky enough to see it
again with out the distraction. The link is to many wonderful
films from the UK. I have many favorites in this rather large list but
a small movie, The Sporting Life. I could watch over many times.
