Sounds good if you want a more "happening" night life...
But I'm past that ;-)

Meaning 'been there and done it' or passed it all by? ;))

Oh I don't doubt it. Mind its a bit dangerous to say anything like that
in Edinburgh!
First time I visited Glasgow was when my son was there with the Scottish
Youth Theatre and I was pleasantly surprised. Had been led to believe
that it was Edinburgh's poor relation - far from it!

Sounds very nice.

It is for a city but most foreign visitors never go near it.

Too bad I don't like to fly. :-(

IMHO no sane person does like flying but I do know a few people who claim to

I don't mind flying - it's crashing that bothers me. :)

That's why you get a seat at the rear, planes never reverse into mountains

I still wouldn't fancy the decceleration from 450 mph to zero in a fraction
of a second on impact though. How many thousand *g* would that be I wonder.
pmj...
|
Try Landing at LCY - London City Airport - then!
:-)
OK, the Planes that land there aren't flying at 450 MPH - I think
they only fly at about 200 MPH or so? - & it does actually take more
than just a few Seconds to Land & Brake to a halt, but there's
certainly plenty of deceleration "G" Forces involved!
:-)

Still not like crashing though - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - thankfully ;)

So... do you fly then, FN?

Flying is flying, but I guess crossing the ocean
instills even more fear in me.

Hey they give you life jackets and life rafts but not parachutes so over the
water *should* be better :-)

And I love boating! (lol)
|
|
I flew in small planes when I was in my twenties.
Even flew in some larger prop planes.
But as I got older, I became more phobic about it.
Our son is flying to Texas today.
He says I'll be more at risk on a bus than he'll be
on a plane. Somehow, those stats never help me
get over the phobia of flying.

within the UK.

~~seadancer~~...

My feelings exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

pmj...
|
Yep!!!
What's wrong with Flying???
I haven't had the chance to fly all that much - only a couple of
times, when I was a kid, in my Uncle's 4 Seater Cessna Light Aircraft. &
then about half a dozen times since then in Commercial Aircraft.
|
love it. I don't mind once I'm up there it's getting up there I don't like.
pmj...
|
That's one of the best bits!!!
Another good bit is the Landing. (see below)
& then the bit(s) in between can be good, depending on what you're
Flying over, how long the Filght is & whether it's Night or Day
& what the Weather is like.
If you want a *brill* Landing, try Flying into LCY - London City
Airport!...
My Brother told me I ought to try it if I ever got a choice of
Airport (he flies quite a lot, to & from various Airports around
the World).
& yep! - It's great!!!
:-)
The Plane (which can only be a relatively small one, like a 737? etc,
not a 747 or MD 11, cos of the (short) length of the Runway),
comes swooping in, over London & the Thames, then it goes into what
looks (& feels) like an almost Vertical Dive, straight towards the
ground...
It then levels out (just!) & hits the Runway & zooms towards the
Buildings in the (very near) distance & the Pilot jams on the Brakes
& applies Maximum Reverse Thrust...
The plane feels like it's going to tip head over heels & that you're
going to get thrown through the Windscreen!
It screeches to a halt, far quicker than you would ever imagine
possible, within a few yards of the Buildings.
You hardly have time to catch your breath & collect your Luggage
from the Rack, before you get out.
It's really very good fun! - Far better than many Fairground Rides
& places like Alton Towers!
Another really brill way of Flying is ParaGliding!!!
:-)
Not Parascending, where you are tied, tethered, & towed behind a Boat,
but Proper ParaGliding, where you jump (well, actually *walk*)
off a Mountain & float from several thousand feet, over the
Countryside & Sea & then glide into land on the Beach.
Great stuff!
|
I did though last year have the only flight I've ever had that I can
honestly say I enjoyed thoroughly and that was this one
pmj...
was we saw land all the way, except for the little bit when we saw water. It
was much better than seeing just clouds :-)
I presume you aren't flying down to Florida then? Are you driving ?

Your photos of Prague are beautiful, so sharp and clear.

There were a surprising high number of Merkins there when I was there. Two,
from New York, joined us on the city tour but there were a lot of school and
church groups too.

What kind of camera do you use?
Rabbit...
|
It's a Fuji 2800z but now a discontinued model
|
About how many KB's is each picture?
pmj...
|
Try RightClicking on a Pic (to bring up the Context Menu) & then
Choosing "Properties" from the Menu... [*1]
That will show the File Size of it (as well as the URL, so you can
then Copy & Paste the URL, if you want to Load the Pic directly into
your Browser).
Or just Drag it (the Pic) off the Page in the Browser Window, onto
your Desktop, or a Folder somewhere & then you can look at it & see
all the Properties of it.
But remember, that the Pics that you see on most Web Pages, such
as those, will have (or *should have!) been Compressed from the
Original File Size that they come from, off the Camera.
You can get various Utilities which will do the Compression for you.
[*1]
& if you happen to come across a Page where they have tried to use
a Script to stop the RightClick ContextMenu from showing, then try
bunging this (as a single Line) into the AddressBar & then Press
[Go], or [Return]...
javascript:document.oncontextmenu=new%20Function('return%20true');void(0);
or this...
|
Rabbit...
|
The originals were very high res and massive about 700 Kb IIRC but those
were compressed for speed of download for people still on dial up or even
people on broadband who don't want to wait :-)
|
To answer your question, my sister and I are taking a
bus tour to FL. We took a bus tour to Georgia and S. Carolina
in October and enjoyed it very much. We had a good group
and laughed all the way down and back.
Rabbit...

I've been to Georgia with my Merkin friends. I wasn't impressed with Atlanta
but loved the smaller places like Dahlonega where I panned for gold and
Helen with it's Bavarian theme Oh and I climbed Stone Mountain
was going to take the chair lift but I was conned into climbing it on foot
:-)

When we saw how close to Florida we had travelled, we
realized that it wouldn't be a difficult trip to visit Florida during
the winter by bus as well.
Rabbit...

So you are going to be a part time *Snowbird* ?? :-) You'll enjoy it, there
are some beautiful places in Florida, beautiful beaches and many hidden
treasures. Don't forget to bring us piccies, it'll cheer us up to see the

Thanks for the photo info, Sandra.
This trip is just an experiment to see how we like this type of
trip which will be only two weeks long down and back.
I'll bring back piccies, but my digital camera is old and doesn't
do high resolution piccies. But it's nice to have them anyway.
The following link brings you some of my photos at WunderGround
Weather/WunderPhotos website where anyone can submit piccies.

Hubby is staying home with our elderly doggie. He hates to
leave the house alone in the wintertime. You never know how
the bad weather will affect the house, frozen pipes, etc.
And it's too much trouble to close up the house.
He doen't seem to mind staying home, although I do hate
to leave him alone. I know he'll miss me. :-)

Can't argue with anything it says but if you want someplace smaller and

particular ;)

But you said you couldn't remember where you stayed when in Scotland so it
could have been Glasgow you loved ;-)

No I didn't - We've stayed all over Scotland from Fort William, Ullapool,
the Highlands, John O'Groats, Inverness, Edinburgh and many other places.
What I did say yonks ago was I couldn't remember the name of the Castle we
stayed in ;)
