I've just downloaded my Dad's RN service record and was a little bit
puzzled by the date of birth given on there as it is 8 months earlier
than on the birth certificate that I also have...He joined as a Stoker
2nd class and at demob was Ldg/Sto with a VG character throughout his
service...I'm now busy looking up all the vessels he served on
throughout WW1 - Royal Oak, Caiser, Victory 2 Leander 4 Talbot, vivid 2
and London, plus some other indecipherables..

Tickettyboo...
Oh I bet you are enjoying looking through it all, must be really
interesting reading about a part of his life that didn't involve the rest
of the family.

Now did Dad fabricate his birth-date in order join earlier then he
should???

Smokey...
Sounds interesting stuff WO, hope you get to the bottom of the mystery
That must be very interesting reading your Dad's service record, does sound
as though he changed his birthdate so as to join-up. !

Jeff Gaines...
You'll have to do some calculations on how old he really was, the
minimum age for joining up and how old he appeared with his amended DOB :-)

Wrinklie One =?iso-8859-1?Q?=A9?=...
Not sure what the minimum age was in those days, but it looks as if it
might have been 18.
He joined up Mar 8 1903 and gave his DOB as Feb 28 whereas he wouldn't
have been 18 until Oct 22...

Jeff Gaines...
I would think you can be 99% certain he 'exaggerated' his age to join up
then!

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
Sure sounds that way WO.

Tickettyboo...
So many boys did, its a strong possibility

MCC...
Have you got an address from where these service records can be downloaded
please, Wrinklie?

Pam the goose...
You beat me to the question:)
I was interested in seeing what my father got up to.
He was a deep sea fisherman till he went in the Navy and I'd
love to know what he got up to during the war.

This is the search page:

Could possibly wrap

Good hunting. It cost £3.50 for a pdf download

MCC...
Thanks for that Wrinklie. Sadly it only goes up to 1923 - I was hoping it
might include WW2 records, but that's maybe a bit too recent.

There is a page for ww2 medals
Here:

MCC...
Thanks Wrinklie, been there a while ago and found my Dad's entitlement.
