I had problems with Voda online topups earlier this year. Having
changed my credit card I needed to update my account. Got refused
access as if you don't top up regularly online the facility is
cancelled.

You should have a Vodafone booklet. In the back cover there is a CC
sized insert with useful numbers.

I mostly use the Voda Top up card in Sainsburys. Swipe, tell the
checkout person how much and a couple of minutes later the credit is
available.

IIRC you have to register the number with Vodaphone or whoever the line
supplier but not at the top up shop which could be anywhere. Lots of garages
round here do them as well as all the major supermarkets. They also jbex in
*some* ATMs
