My local computer shop are selling the following 17" TFT for £159-00. I
have copied this spec from the pdf download on the manufacture's site.
Comments please. Seems like a good deal to me, especially bearing in mind
a 3 year on site exchange warranty

The monitor I am using at the moment is a gnr one, FN. (Came from Asda).
I can't fault it. I paid the same price as you are being asked and mine
hasn't got the DVI connection.

The max resolution, contrast and response times may not be top of the
range, but for what you want I reckon it would be ideal.

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°5 +...
Thanks Mike, perhaps the New Year might see one appear here then. Anyone
want to buy a 17" Hyundai Colour Monitor (Model: HL/HT 7870A) with a mind of
it's own?
One very careful owner.

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°5 +...
Had a look at the on line suppliers of that TS700D gnr 17" TFT monitor, and
the cheapest I could find was £176 + p&p. So my local shop at £159 and only
10 minutes walk away seem to be the very best bet. So I just migt wait 'til
the blue smoke starts rising out of the back of my current CRT one.

Jeff Gaines...
There was some discussion about this a few weeks back, FN. You just
need to be aware you *may* get a monitor with a dodgy pixel or two and
have to live with it.

BoyPete...
Have a look at Aria.....
They have some good prices, and offer a pixel check for £20.

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°5 +...
The really cheap ones only come with a 30 day warranty though, and the
others I was interested in were sold out..

Rabbit...
A thirty day warranty doesn't override your rights under the SOGA, it is in
addition to those legal rights.

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°5 +...
But it could be a load more hassle. I think the 3 year on site warranty and
the vendor less than ½ mile away might sway it for me though. :)

Jeff Gaines...
If you've got a 'private' computer shop near you then (a) you're a
jammy get (b) don't forget their Christmas card (that makes 51) and (c)
definitely use them, even if it costs a little more (oh gosh, did I
really say that to FN!).

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°5 +...
And it may be today - cos I can smell that hot pcb again and the display has
flickered from left to right a few times today. :(

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°5 +...
Well can't put it off any longer - back to ½ width display again today - so
it's off to get a ne TFT monitor soon.

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°5 +...
Now that's a lot better - bigger screen - well still 17" but larger visible
display, and really much brighter - will have to tone it down a bit I

Rabbit...
They take a bit of getting used to don't they ? Specially the text.

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°5 +...
Well to be honest the text is great - just a bit larger - much easier to
read.

Rabbit...
Mine was tiny in comparison to a CRT till I adjusted it.

think. :)

Mind you that *(open wallet surgery* ain't 'alf painful. :(

Jackie...
I think you will have to have a lie down to recover from the *open wallet

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°5 +...
Tell me about it!!! ;(

surgery*
Sounds good FN

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°5 +...
'tis too :)

Wrinklie One =?iso-8859-1?Q?=A9?=...
Just sitting here green with envy.. My little 15" tft cost me £208 :-(((

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°5 +...
They've got one left WO
and more will be in in the new year. :)

Wrinklie One =?iso-8859-1?Q?=A9?=...
My wallet ain't bottomless either :-)

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°5 +...
Just tell me about it - £178 for my car's annual service yesterday. :(

John the R-T...
Annual service? Wossat?

Rabbit...
Thought you were getting used to it by now :-)

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°5 +...
A Tyke *never* gets used to that. :(

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°5 +...
You do your own on your new car then John? :)

Rabbit...
Is it possible to do a modern car ? I can't even reach the dipstick without
the aid of a coathanger and I would need to be a contortionist as thin as a
match to reach the plugs to change them. Changing the air filter might just
be possible if the wind is blowing in the right direction :-)

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°5 +...
That's why I asked the question. :)

John the R-T...
You must be joking. Haven't done that since 1984. Just looking under
the bonnet frightens me. Service is every two years or 20,000 miles
whichever comes first.
Up until this year VW cars had an oil change every year or 10,000
miles with a service every two years or 20,000 miles.

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°5 +...
The old Celica is every 9000 miles or 12 months whichever is soonesr.

Rabbit...
Keep practicing. If you need any help in that direction there is that nice
HDTV I've got my eyes on :-)

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°5 +...
I think mine is only larger 'cos the CRT display diagonal was about 15.8"
whereas this one is 17" That's an increase of about 8%

Rabbit...
Ah right I went from a 17 inch CRT to a 17 inch TFT

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°5 +...
So did I. But on the 17" CRT you only get a 15.8" diagonal, if you're
lucky.

Rabbit...
Oh yes I'd go for that option too.

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°5 +...
What would they say then if I just asked them to plug the one I was buying
into one of their computers just so that I could what it looked like?

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°5 +...
The shop would change it for me Jeff. They've been very good like that in
the past.

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°5 +...
I quizzed the guys at PC World about pixel problems and they discussed it.
They reckoned in all the displays that they had set up they had never
observed any faults, and said categorically that if a customer had such a
fault they would exchange the monitor without question. My local pooter
shop had the same reaction to the query.
