Now, it would be interesting to see if what you thought was causing
the problem *is* actually the cause of the trouble?...

Try Re-Installing it (the Sygate Firewall), now that you know that
you *can* get online OK, using the Cable Modem, with its Ethernet
Connection & the Router thingy.

& see if that makes it all Brokted again.
If it does, then that will fairly conclusively prove that the prob
*is* something or other to do with some Settings in the Sygate
Firewall, so you know where to start looking to make it all Fixted.

As with all of these sort of probs, the main part of sussing it
all out is to track down, locate, pinpoint & isolate where the prob
actually is (& thus what is actually causing it). When you know that
(which can sometimes take a fair amount of digging & delving into all
sorts of things!), then you can make it all sorted & Fixted OK again.
