Hello all,
I've been away on a trip to Maine, visiting an old friend.
BunnyHare...
|
Sounds as if you had an interesting trip. Nice photos, too
~~seadancer~~...
|
Thanks, Barb. Yes, it was fun. We even stopped in Woodstock, VT,
~~seadancer~~...
|
They came in #28 out of over 80 teams. Not bad in
such a difficult race. See:
She arrived home with blisters on her feet and some scratches
here and there, probably exhausted. I might be seeing her tonight
and hope to find out more first-hand information.
|
for supper at a restaurant called Bentleys. Woodstock is a tourist
attraction because it's such a quaint town. Queechee Gorge is near
there too. It's a very deep gorge with a bridge over it where you
can walk across and look down into the gorge. We once saw a big
hot air balloon dare to float down into the gorge for a minute or two.
BunnyHare...
|
My hot air balloon trip is on 19th August but don't think I will get
that far
~~seadancer~~...
|
Oh, wow. You are brave!
Where will you be "hot-air-ballooning" over?
Have you ever done this before?
BunnyHare...
|
I will be taking off from the racecourse in Cheltenham which is about 6
miles away from my home. Depending on wind direction I could even pass
over my home
The children bought me the trip for my 65th birthday in May but the
first date which fitted in with my schedule and with my daughter's (she
will be driving me to the launch site) is August.
No I haven't done it before but I have flown a glider!
~~seadancer~~...
|
That's quite a birthday gift, Barb!
BunnyHare...
|
Yep, they said it was cos it was a special birthday
|
I look forward to hearing about your experience in the
hot-air balloon next August.
BunnyHare...
|
Oh I am sure you will and photos!
|
I flew in a glider when I was in my 20s, but I wouldn't have
the courage to do it again. I remember being impressed by
how quiet and smooth the ride was.
BunnyHare...
|
Well I made a decision on my 40th birthday that each 0 and 5 birthday
thereafter I would do something a bit out of the ordinary. something I
had never attempted before.
So far I have abseiled down a hill, climbed up a climbing wall, tackled
an assault course, flown a glider and hurtled down a hill on a grass
~~seadancer~~...
|
I finally had time to look up the word "abseiling".
It's the British term for rappelling. Live and learn! (g)
Definition: "To 'reppel' means to lower oneself with a double
rope coiled around the body from a mountainside." Ah-so!
My son's Scottish girlfriend is currently taking part in a 500 mile
See the leaderboard for the race at:
So far their team is 34th among 82 teams.
They've been racing for 5 days now, since June 25.
At the top of the chart, you can see the different activities
included in the race which is very rugged, as you can imagine.
~~seadancer~~...
|
Their team is now 32nd among 82 teams.
~~seadancer~~...
|
Their 4 member team is now 27th! They had been 26th!
They are currently mountain biking on this leg of the race.
It's their 8th day of racing.
Please sign their guest book and specify that you're from
the UK, or better yet, SCOTLAND! (lol) The URL is:
Click on: "Sign this team's guestbook".
You might mention that you are Internet friends of Joy & Ed.
Thank you!
~~seadancer~~...
|
The team is now 28th in the race (out of over 80 teams).
They had a penalty for leaving one of the team members behind.
I wonder what happened.
I see that a fellow named Mick from Northern Ireland signed the guestbook.
Of course the relatives from Scotland signed the guestbook too.
The father said he was "gobsmacked".
I guess that's a British or Scottish expression.
The race should be ending soon.

|
I searched the web for and found an article about the Primal Quest Race.
"Primal Quest features teams from twenty countries, and most
of the top professional teams in the world are present.
Deliverance's Lesley Taylor commented on the atmosphere:
'The international community is great. Although we're a mid-pack team,
we look forward to watching the top Brits in the field go for the win."

sledge and on skis (dry ski slope)
Was wondering what I could do this year and the kids solved it!
~~seadancer~~...
|
What a great idea. What is abseiling (down a hill)?
I've been wanting to go tubing down a special tubing hill at
our local ski slope. But it looks a bit too challenging and I'm
afraid of getting hurt. Why look for trouble at the age of 72? (g)
(As a girl, I always loved sleigh riding down the nearest slope.)
BunnyHare...
|
You wear a special harness, attached to ropes and basically walk down
the side of the hill. The ropes are well secured at the top
Here is a picture of me abseiling, not down the hill, but down the
practice wall. Same idea though
BunnyHare...
|
Whoops, forgot the url
Aries...
|
Gosh I'm impressed Barb, when was that taken ?
BunnyHare...
|
That was taken in 2003 when I was on an adventure holiday with the
grandchildren. I actually abseiled down the hill in 2001 and I am sure
I have a picture somewhere but couldn't find it. Had a couple of goes
Rabbit...
|
I'm sure you had that piccy ( or piccies IIRC) on a web site back in L1
days. I certainly remember seeing you abseiling down a cliff.
BunnyHare...
|
You could be right. Sandra. Will have a look when I get back from camp
|
|
down the tower at the Scout HQ last year but now I am an old lady of 65
not allowed to do it this year
Aries...
|
No chance for me then LOL
|
|
|
|
Never heard of tubing but sounds great.
Shame isn't it that when we get to the age where we have a bit of free
time to do all these exciting things we have to think about the risks

We toured the Portland Head Lighthouse and went to Two Lights
State Park. Maine has a very rocky coast, but it's beautiful.
Below is an URL showing DH & me next to the Portland Lighthouse.

Thanks for the wonderful photos, Sea. The last time my wife
& I were in Portland we were on our way to Nova Scotia on
The Scotia Prince. Portland has wonderful resturantants & it's
a real old fashioned New England city. Again you brought back
some fond memories of Bet & I traveling & enjoying life. I have
boxes of photos & plenty from Maine, Vermont & New Hampshire.
Where did the time go?
~~seadancer~~...
|
Hi John - The time fugited (fu-ji-ted)!
It's nice that you have those good memories to savor.
You should browse through your photos and relive those memories.
Yes, one of the restaurants we ate at was "The Muddy Rudder".
I ordered wine to enhance the experience (g) ... even though it
was only lunch time. (g)

We had a great time even though it rained 3 out of the 5 days.
The URL below shows 9 pics I took on the trip. Click on the thumbnails.

I also went shopping LL Bean in Freeport and bought some nice stuff.
For you gals, the URLs below show the bathing suit I bought.
It comes in separate tops and bottoms. You can buy the top in a
different size from the bottom. And the style is so comfortable!
I bought the skirted bottom in a solid color. I bought the print top.
The style is very flattering... a miracle of engineering! LOL
Click on the colors swatches to see the suit in different colors:

We've been busy running around since we returned.
So I haven't had much time to go online. Hope you're all doing OK.

Welcome back Sea. I will have to look at the piccies later as I am a bit
tied up atm
~~seadancer~~...
|
OK, Jen. Thanks for the welcome back.
I know what you mean by being tied up.
This is a busy season.
I spend a lot of time watering my potted flowers (g)
and also getting organized for the new season.
There's so much to do when the seasons change.

May...

Like the tops andbottoms. Its good when theyre available in different sizes
each from the other. So few of us have the desirable statistics !!
Currently my choice would be the Aqua. The deep pink one is nice, tooo, but
I'm not a Deep Pink person, myself. What colour did you purchase??
Marg : )
~~seadancer~~...
|
I bought the aqua. I especially love the print.
It seems to cover up a lot of imperfections. (g)
As the ad says, the material stretches in both directions.
That's exactly what I needed! (g)

(er ..*we mustn't be seen together* ..

~~seadancer~~...

LOL Well, it all depends how thin you are.
I don't want to be the only chubby one. (g)

Neat pics.

Thanks, Anders. I was glad my camera held up.
Sometimes the batteries wear out too fast and
I forget to bring extras.
