I thought I'd heard it all now, but

Just heard that firemen in Lincolnshire have been banned from climbing step
ladders whilst fitting smoke alarms, for health and safety reasons.

Rabbit...
And notably no figures are available as to how many firemen ( or women) have
actually fallen off step ladders.

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°7 +...
Apparently *1* would be too many, and as none of them has fallen yet, they
aren't going to let anyone get the chance to. :)

Apparently up 'til now they have fitted smoke alarms to ceilings using
adhesive pads by using a special pole to just push them into firm contact
with the ceiling. They would prefer to install the them more permanently
(and presumably more *safely* secured) by using screws. This would entail
climbing step ladders, but they have been told this would be an unsafe
practice. Anyone wish to inform B & Q, Homebase and any other DIY stores

Baldrick...
When we moved to this flat there was a smoke alarm fitted to the wall in the
hall, just outside the kitchen; I insisted that it be changed for one that
went on the ceiling and that was fitted using adhesive pads .... It fell
down one day and broke !

We did go and buy another one, but I've yet to fit it, because most of the
walls and ceilings here are made of reinforced concrete, so even a hammer
drill won't work to make the holes !

Well however you do it, don't use a step ladder. If it's too dangerous for
a fireman to use, what chance will you have? ;)

Baldrick...
I'm gonna have to lower the ceilings !

Why not stretch your arms by hanging from the door jambs for several hours
each day? :)

? :)

't was an item on Yorkshire - Calendar - about ½ hour ago.

Splodge...
The photo in the newspaper showed a three rung ladder. If that is the case,
there's a lot of unsafe practice going on in Splodge Towers lol

Well on your own head be it, if you fall off. You have been warned :)

shaz...
So what happens when they have to go up ladders to fight fires?

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°7 +...
There are special rails to hold on to, or so they said. There'll be none
of that big hunky fireman rescuing the lady and carting her down a normal
ladder any more. :(

shaz...
Oh shucks there goes my fantasy then

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°7 +...
Not only yours I reckon. ;)
