Yep, the windoze taskbar is *designed* to be altered - it's actually
fairly highly "customisable"...
The idea is that you can make it look & work in various differen tways,
according to your own preferences.

But most people don't ever seem to change it from the Default
Settings & so when it does get "accidentally" changed, they don't know
what's happened otr why, or how to get it back.

straight line with the time at the end.

Panic over - I have managed to sort it out but I do not know how it became
altered.

pmj...
Yep, that's the normal, Default way that it comes Set.

All the Icons in the System Tray (the "System Notification Area")
on the right hand end of the Taskbar (or on the bottom of it,
if you have the TaskBar on the Side of the Screen) end up sprawling
miles along the TaskBar

It's actually quite useful to increase the height of the TaskBar,
so that the Icons don't sprawl all the way along the Screen & that
also has the side effect of allocating more Lines for the Clock,
so it can show the Date & Day of the Week as well.

Now I have all the little icons in a block - with the time/day and date
in three lines one under the other. I cannot alter the position of the

Oh!
So you've managed to find out how to adjust the TaskBar, so it is
more useful & works better for you then?
:-)

There are several other things you can do with the Taskbar, which,
if you find out about them & try them out, you will find makes
things quicker & easier to use.

Post Back, if you need any more Help with it or any Hints & Tips
& suggestions about what you can do with it.

icons on the desktop either - they just snap back.

pmj...
That is an Option in the Desktop (Display) Properties.
You can get to them from the context menu you get when you
RightClick on the Desktop...

RightClick Desktop>Arrange Icons by...

You then get a Sub-Menu with various Options (which Options appear,
depends on what stuff you have on your Computer & how you have
various other Options Set)

But in amongst the Options, yo ushould Find various things such as...

Name
Size
Type
Modified

So you can have them Arranged (Sorted) according to any of those
Criteria.

Also, there will prolly be several other Options, such as...

Show in Groups
Auto Arrange
Align to Grid

If you have the "Auto Arrange" Option Ticked, then when you (or
anybody/anything) tries to Move the Icons on the Desktop, they will
just "Snap" back into Position (& the Position depends on the other
Options Set above)

If you don't want any Icons Showing on your Desktop, then you can
UnTick the Option...

Show Desktop Icons

There are a few more Options in that menu, but you can prolly get
away with not bothering with them.
Try them out (or Post back if you want more Info about them)

Please what have I clicked wrongly?? and or how can I put it back as it was.

pmj...
You haven't Clicked anything "wrongly"!
:-)

It's just that you haven't realised what you (or someone else)
have Clicked (or actually in this case Dragged).

The TaskBar can be Dragged to whatever Size you want.

If you have accidentally Dragged it to a Size that you don't want, just
Drag it back.

You may need to make sure that you have the Option "Lock Taskbar"
UnTicked, so as to be able to ReSize it.

That Option is available in the Context menu you get when you
RightClick on the Taskbar, or from the "Taskbar & Start Menu" Propeties
in Control Panel.

You can ReSize the Taskbar with the Mouse, or by using the Cursor
(Arrow) Keys on the Keyboard.

(& not many people know this)...

Click on the Taskbar (so the TaskBar has the "Focus") & then Press
(& hold) the [ALT] Key.
Then Press (& Release) the [Space] Bar

That will bring up what is actually a Standard "Window Menu" - all
Windows (including the TaskBar, which is actually a special kind of
Window) have a "Window Menu", so you can Move or ReSize them without
a Mouse.
That's useful if your Mouse isn't working, or if the Window is off
the Screen so you can;t get to it to Move or ReSize it.

Try it.
:-)

A very good way of finding out what can be done (& how to do it) is
to have a good look around in the various menus you get, by Holding
down different "Modifier" Keys, such as ALT, CTRL & SHIFT

& I think it's cos people *don't* know that all those sort of things are
vailable, thet very often they accidently & unknowingly end up Moving
things around & wondering why & how it happened.

Therefore, when you *do* know what can be done (& how) you can then
make things Fixted, when they seem to be brokted, or put things back
when you've accidentally Moved them.
