Ray was doing a talk about S&R last night and he took me with him. It was
just cos he was on his own and it was a Ladies' Night so he thought an
accompanying female might be a good idea.
So the evening went well with me sitting quietly while he did his talk then
when he finished the ladies were invited to come and talk to him to ask any
questions they wanted to. So, looking at the way he was going to be
inundated I occupied myself giving out the written stuff we had printed out
telling the history of the team and what it gets up to now.
Half way down the hall was a face I was sure I recognised so I kept clear of
that side till Ray was free and asked him to watch me in case I needed him
then walked to that row to give them the printed stuff.
I could tell the lady I was looking at recognised me. But then so did three
others sitting with her!

That was really great Pam being able to recognize them from all that time
ago, it was nice you had such a good evening.

It took me a while but I named her daughter and she was delighted. Then in
turn the other ladies named their daughters and we brought ourselves up to
date with all the news as far as grandchildren!
Bear in mind their kids were 5 when they were in my reception class about 30
years ago so they were quite chuffed I could name names! Mind you, so was
Ray, he hadn't seen me yattering like that for a few years!
I slept well last night after doing more talking and memory w*rk than I've
done since my bleeding brain. I'm so glad he took me with him:)

Thanks, Noreen:)
It's funny how someone up there seems to take notice and provide experiences
for us, isn't it?

It never ceases to amaze me how teachers remember the children they were in
care of. I meet up with some of the teachers who taught me in secondary
school and they all seem to remember my name and what my intrests had been.
I end up meeting them in the local Tesco's here. There are some that I met
there that were fronded upon by my peers, but I liked them because I saw
their qualities as good people.
I had a joke and a laugh with the ex headmaster of the primary school i
went to as well, and recalled the incidence of him giving me the belt! It
was good having a laugh abo0ut it seeing as I did at the time too! ( 4 of
us got the belt at the same time then went back one after the other. The
others were in tears as we went back, so when i entered all eyes were on me,
and in a perfect comic timing moment said in a happy voice " that was quite
sore actually" and laughed at the absurdity of the event!

Great post Pam. You keep amazing us :-)

Well, to be honest Jen, I keep amazing *me* too!
If Ray had known those parents were coming he wouldn't have invited me; if
I'd known they'd be there I wouldn't have gone simply because the confidence
has disappeared when I meet people and there's no way I could have coped
with them even a few weeks ago. But there I was, faced with them and just
got on with it! They were "My Mums" and I was too interested in what had
happened to them and theirs to get all hot and bothered and want to run
away!

Well, the reason we remember is because those kids are *ours* for a year!
It's just a large family and we remember them as much as they remember us:)
