I gather (from your later Posts) that's the early name for
St Michaels (Marks & Spencer) stuff then?
& not the Name of the School!

Gosh Boo, what a memory you have, who the heck was St Margaret, don't
remember that label, must have been before St Michael.
|
|
Wonder what the idea of it was ?

That looks like an adult one. They were certainly available only a few
years ago.

I do!! I wore one. It was made of a cotton fleecy material and was very
warm to wear.
It was called a liberty bodice and the rubber buttons were to enable it to
go through the mangle after washing without breaking the buttons.
There were little tapes at the bottom on either side with a rubber button -
this was to enable fixing suspenders on so that the long black school
stockings could be held up!
Those were the days!! :-)

My dad wore long johns with rubber buttons, that must have been to go
through the big rollers on the mangle too.
I hated my liberty bodice, what we had to wear, hey !!
Not to mention long navy blue school knickers LOL
can you imagine if kids today were made to wear them
|
|
noreen...

Yes I do Pat , my Mum wouldn't let me out without one , to protect the chest

They would down tools !! I do remember the knickers were warm in winter ,and
you had a pocket to keep your hanky;-))))))

Then when my Son was born , I was told he had to wear one too , but i drew
the line at that ;-))))

OOh yes. Had to have your liberty bodice on to keep out the chill
winds.
There will be a few of today's bare midriffed kids will wish, in later
life, they had been made to wear a liberty bodice or a vest (or both)
LOL

Ah...
So *that's* where I went wrong then!!!...
:-)
I ended up with Pneumonia, when I was in the 5th Year (or was it
1st Year Sixth?) at School...
& didn't ever wear a "Liberty Bodice"!
If I had have done, then would that have stopped me from getting
Pneumonia then?
Tickettyboo...
|
Definitely...long as it was a St Margaret's one..they had special powers .
|
I thought (at the time), that I got it from going Rock Climbing,
while I had a bit of a Cold, in the Pouring Rain & then not being
able to change out of the damp, cold Clothes for some time.

bad enough, Lord alone knows what he was like with pneumonia>

Nobody told *us* about these "Liberty Bodice" things which would
have saved me from getting Pneumonia!
:-(
