speed check?

Tiscali said they were going to up my speed to 2Mb a few days ago but
they would let me know when it was done by e-mail. I had no internet
connection all morning but after lunch it was back o.k. I think it seems
much faster but they have not e-mailed me. What is the best one to use
to check my speeds? thanks.

the speed through *your* network connection while going about your normal
business, or while doing a heavy download. That way you won't be relying
on a remote site or the variable route the packets take.

Don't trust the very first reading you get. It gave me 3.4 Mbps first time

No need for that *F* I got 100 M once on the ZDNews speed test. Must admit
that Tiscali one didn't oblige though.. Just gave me 3.54 M, which still
isn't possible since PN have me throttled to 3000 kbps PN gives me 2.54 M
much more realistic.

and I know my speed is never more than 3 Mbps. 2nd and third readings were
more accurate at 2.81 and then down to 1.85 Mbps. :(

Around 2800- 2900 usually The PN speedtester has just measured it at
2783.6 kbps.

I don't know, but would you believe I just tried with Firefox and got a
speed of 13.13Mbps? Not quite right, that. :-)

I have just run a test from tiscali - it is 1024.50 kpb I tried several
of the others you mention and I'm afraid I do not understand them,
so it means I am not getting 2Mb yet am I??

Seems like you're still on the 1 Mbps package Jackie (most reckon 1 Mbps is
1024 kbps)

Why not try this one Jackie
Just click on the begin the test link then wait until it's finished - about
30 - 40 seconds for me. Then it just displays your download speed (mine was
2815 kbps - 2.75 M) and upload speed (mine was 360 kbps - 0.35 M)

I thought 1024 kbps down and 256 kbps up was about the best you could get on
a 1 Mbps connection.

I'm on 2 mbs package but my line isn't capable of receiving more. One day
it might be upgraded, after all I am only 3 miles away from the county town

Perhaps everybody gets 1.85 on that test and Tiscali says that's fine. It's

3355.4 kbps which can't be right and 2912.5 kbps on retest which is much
closer to what I usually get.

Mine is 2007 - download 241 - upload which I consider good as I am on
2mbs

The Tiscali one gives me a 2080 download and a 260 upload

But I rarely check my speed anyway - as long as I get on line at a
reasonable speed it does not bother me

When did you switch to 2mbs Anita - did you keep losing your connection
when you changed over?
I asked for the 2mbs and they said they would upgrade and I would get an
e-mail from then but I have been having disconnections so I thought
perhaps they were doing something but it appears not.

Jackie I waited 10 days then went onto the Forums on the Tiscali web
site - down at the bottom you will find a section for BB problems - go
on there and MK Andy and co will sort it out for you - just type in with
a heading something like 'Still awaiting upgrade from 1 - 2mbs' then in
the message give them the date you applied and tell them you are having
disconnections - they will check it out for you. Takes them about 2 days
to answer ............. and mine was sorted in 3/4 days, just keep going
back and looking to see if they have answered you.

I was disconnected again last night so have only just seen these posts.
I do hope the disconnections means they are doing something good!!!
