I've been in my own flat all day and trying to find a plumber to fix my=20
leaking pipe. I'm not staying here ATM and the water to the rogue pipe=20
is turned off so it's not an emergency.

Anyway, armed with Yellow Pages I've been phoning around to find someone=20
who could come along next week. I found one firm which could send a=20
plumber on Tuesday morning BUT having made the arrangement they said=20
there would be a call-out charge of =A370 and it would be =A370 per hour,=
=20
plus parts, for the work!

It is scandalous what some charge, I am glad you have found one without
the call-out charge.
I hope he gets it fixed quickly.

I couldn't believe it! I have no problem with the concept of a call-out=20
charge for attending out of hours but the idea of plumbers charging to=20
turn out during normal working hours seems decidedly dodgy. What's the=20
alternative? Should I rip out all the pipework and take it round to=20
their workshop so they can examine it there? The world's going mad IMO!

I'm afraid this sort of thing is becoming more and more common. Seems they
(the cowboys) have no interest other than making as much money as possible.
We used to have a local gasman service our boiler each year. A couple of
years ago he came to do the service and when he'd finished, asked for 66%
more than the year before (no pre-warning). Something like Ł85 for less
than 1 hours work - no parts. We've not used his services since. Since
found out from another gasman that he's boasted he "will charge what the
hell he likes".

The "Me Me Me" generation are taking over this country of ours :-(

Needless to say I declined their offer and have now found someone who=20
can do the job next Monday without a call-out charge.

will get free advertising by recommendation.
