In my MesNews plugins folder I have a 'thumbs' entry. Is it a normal
pmj...
|
Have you made sure that you have the Option
[ ] Hide Extensions for known File Types
*Un*Ticked (on the "View Tab of the Folder Options)
I ask taht, cos there's no such File (normally) as "thumbs",
but there *is* a File called "thumbs.db"
|
Windows/xp system file or just something that has come along as part of a
prog I have installed along the line somewhere ?
pmj...

Ah...
Yes I can see you*have* got the File extensions showing properly.
& the File *is* actually called "thumbs.db" (& not "thumbs")
Yep.
That's a normal File created by the WinXP Operating System
It's got the "System" & "Hidden" Attributes Set (which you can see,
if you look at the Properties)
It's Created (in any Folder) whenever you have the "View" Set to
"Thumbnails" (like you have, for that Folder).
It's Created, so that WinXP doesn't have to Create the individual
Thumbnails every time you Open the Folder (all it has to do is to
just Update it, as & when any Files are Added, Deleted or Edited)
You can Delete the thumbs.db File if you want (you'll get a Warning
from windoze, about it being a "System" File, when you Delete it)
& windoze will just ReCreate it, the next time you use the Thumbnail
View on a Folder.
If you don't want to keep Deleting the thumbs.db Files, you can stop
them from being Created (after you Delete them) by...
Menu>Tools>Folder Options>View
[/] Do not Cache Thumbnails
You can also change the Size of the Thumbnails in the "Thumbnails
View" of a Folder (if you want to) by Editing the Registry.
Post back if you want to do that & if you want to know which Value
(in which Key) to Edit.

If it's a normal windows file then I'll leave it be ta PMJ - and I do have
hidden files to show so that is the reason I am seeing it then :)

It's absolutely normal, Val. I have hundreds of them in my folders
;-)

Thanks Graham, glad to hear it is normal :)

If you delete them they are put back by Windows.
