I've already mentioned the new tumble dryer that had to be replaced
because it was shredding the washing. The replacement is so far behaving
itself. Full marks to Argos for the swift decision to replace. No
arguments there.
Liz dropped the iron last week, fortunately missing vital body parts.
But bits of it flew out across the floor.
I retrieved them all, stuffed it back together and it sort of works but
no real control over the steam and I suspect it's on full heat all th
time.
So a new iron is on the cards.
And yesterday our trusty AEG washing machine finally fell on it's sword.
If I'd known it was only going to last 14 years I would never have
bought it.
The programmer has been a bit dodgy for a few years now but it always
worked. Until yesterday when it stubbornly refused to complete a wash
cycle or pump out. Leaving a drum full of tepid blue tinged water 3
pairs of soggy jeans and a couple of T shirts.
A swift web-search puts a replacement electronic programmer at a shade over
£135 so soddit.
This is turning into a White Goods Christmas.

The up side is that newer goods are an improvement on older ones and you
might not have to replace the washing machine for another 14 years?

I (and my last Hoover washing machine repairman) would disagree with that.
In the older machines parts could be replaced quite cheaply ( excluding
labour) but the newer machines can cost as much as a new machine just for an
electronic part which is likely to fail much quicker.

That's extremely *Un*Likely!!!
Modern White goods, such as Washin gmachines & tumble Dryers etc,
are full of fancy Electronic bits (*as well as* the various Mechanical
bits) & they tend not to last as long as the previous sort.
& when they do fail (as they always will), it's less likely that there
is any local bloke who can make them Fixted, using commonly available,
standard parts, so the whole thing needs replacing.

If it's any consolation, my new TV cost more than all of your goods put

Well, that's up to you!!!
I would never dream of spending very much on a Telly!!!

You can't have anything less than a 32" in a decent sized room. Have

Well *I* can!!!
:-)
Yes, I'd like one a bit bigger than 20 Inches - but for the mo,
a small one is OK.

you looked at their prices lately?

|
No, not really, (just in passing & I haven't looked into them in great
detail) but I have seen that they have come down in price a lot recently

I paid about 400 Quid a couple of Years ago, for a New LCD Flat Panel
TV (it was only 20 Inch, but at that time, anything bigger was *loads*
more expensive) & that was to replace a TV that was over 10 Years old!!!
& before that, the previous TV had lasted about 15 years or more.

together.

As it's quite possible to buy a new TV for less than 50 quid these days
I think you may have paid over the odds, old thing.
