They had a competition for people to design headers fro them and I think
that is one of the winners. Something to do with 5 wonders of Britain. Just
hover and you will see it

Mine doesn't look any different.

Found it now, I don't know why it would work before, I was on the right URL.
I don't like it, it's a bit of a mess, isn't it? Too busy. Just the flag
and the London Eye would have been enough.

As a Recycled Teenager I've got to like it. Some of the others are a
bit OTT though.

My thoughts too Annie. Did you look at the page and see the other
winners and runners up. Ithought there were better ones

Hi Barb
Scotland and West Midlands are best.

Hi Annie
Gareth...

Do you mean *Ancestry.com* & *Ancestry.co.uk* ?
It's best to use the UK url as you'll get more UK info in that
database.
You can sign up to the UK one FREE for access to the GRO Indices and
every so often they give you free access to some of the other records.

It might be worth mentioning that ancestry.co.uk only have English and
Welsh records. They don't have Scottish ones, which are held at
to download images of the register entries.

Good point Mike!
For the full access, Ancestry can get pricey too... unless you can find

It's been worth it though, I've really enjoyed looking at the censuses.

Yes and considering that they have transcribed the 1841 - 1901 it does
make searching that much easier.

Unfortunately it's the 1911 one I'm having to wait for now. :(
Gareth...
|
I don't know if there's any plans by anyone to transcribe it yet
though?
Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
|
Well they aren't allowed to release it 'till 2011 anyway, are they? :(
Gareth...
|
The 1901 wasn't released until 2001 but they had spent a considerable
amount of time before that date transcribing it.

It'll be New Year's Day 2012 before the 1911 census comes on line. There's
a one hundred year closure rule on all censuses.
MCC...
|
I stand corrected! It will be the "first working day" of 2012.

There was an early day motion , currently signed by 36 MPs
"That this House notes that the Freedom of Information Act 2000
repealed the 100-year closure period for decennial census records, but
that, nevertheless, the Department for Constitutional Affairs and the
National Archives assert that it is Government policy that the 1911
Census shall remain closed to inspection for 100 years; and urges the
Information Commissioner to take an early opportunity to publish his
advice on this matter."
The Petition:

I don't think there's much hope of the information being released early
because it says on the census form that the information given is
confidential and will remain closed for 100 years.
Mind you, we're talking about government here ;-)

Just so long as the contract doesn't go to QinetiQ this time! They
sub-contracted it to the Indian sub-continent - seemingly when the 1901
census first came on line in 2002 the most common surname was 'Ditto'

I don't know what that one does, perhaps Gareth knows. I use
Ancestry.co.uk.
Got to go out right now, I'll have another look later. I'm only a beginner
though, don't really know what I'm talking about :))

Just had a peep at mine. As far as I can see it's the home page that is
different. The .com version opens basically for access to to US data and
the .co.uk one for UK data. I can't really see a difference in usage
though, I easily got into the US Census data using the .co.uk version, and
vice versa.
|
Its the www.google .co.uk one that does it, the www.google.com one doesn't

Have you tried *Clicking* on the Pic?
