Although the router still seems to be ok and all the lights are green as
expected only the main (wired) computer is able to connect to the
internet
The report from the upstairs computer and from the laptop is No Wireless
connection is within range
Any ideas?

I'm beginning to think it's a feature of a wireless connection. 80% of the
time this laptop connects fine when it resumes from standby, the other 20%
I have to re-boot it.
It's a pain, the WAP is 3 metres away in the same room but I can't even
ping the default gateway. I decided I'd just have to live with it but if
anybody has a solution I'd be glad to hear it :-)

I have the same problem sometimes Jeff, I usually find that if I click on
repair that sometimes does the trick :)

OK, I'll give it a whirl next time it happens :-)

Good tip madam :-)
Just had to do it and it re-connected for me, much quicker than
re-booting, thanks!

Yes, you're using Windows, it's a pita when it comes to wifi. My
experiences suggest it has a preference for certain makes of router, and
those preferences change every time there is a Windows update.
Solution. Don't update Windows, you're only breaking something that's
already broken. ;-)

Probably not the correct answer but I'd blame the last Windows update. I
booted my laptop up today for the first time since I did the last but one
update on it, it couldn't find the router, it couldn't find the infra red
doodah, and kept freezing :-( After the same update on here I found my
security settings changed :-( So yeah I'd blame Bill :-)

Why not Restore the system to the previous status - thus removing the
naff upgrade? Who really needs the M$ spyware anyway?

Hmm I wonder. It was all right on Thursday night. Windows updates were
done on Friday morning.
So what now? Restore back to Thursday?

Tried switching the router off for a few mins and then on again ? Ditto

for the pcs, though that is grasping at straws , even for me!

|
Yep. In fact the laptop hasn't been switched on for over a week and we
only switched it on to see if it had a problem when the problem started
on the ocmputer upstairs if you see what I mean
|
Other than that, have you changed anything ( that you know of) in the
router recently?
BunnyHare...
|
Not that I am aware of. It has been taking up to 3 minutes after the
main computer is switched on and all the icons etc are in place for the
internet connection to click in. On Thurday night it took half an hour
for the upstairs computer to find the wireless network and last night it
couldn't find a network at all
|
Or have there been 'updates' to both pcs that perhaps could have affected
the wifi?
BunnyHare...
|
Certainly been no updates on the lappy cos it hasn't been on
|
Is the wifi w*rking if the laptop is right next to the router?

Laptop is sitting on the table just behind the router. Thought it might
be a problem with the router but the wireless light is on as it should
be
Wondered if I restored defaults on the router then set everything up
again??
