Been showing my friend a few more things on her laptop. Seems she does
not have spellchecker, it is greyed out
how can I get it on for her please!!
Frederick Williams...

Do laptops have(in any sensible meaning of the word) spellcheckers?
Surely it's some applications that have spell checkers?

Hi Jackie,
Whilst what the others are saying about "Word" etc, is true, I've seen
this recommended in the past. I've not tried it myself, so this is
*not* a personal recommendation.

Thank you Bri, I have copied it to disc and will try it on her laptop.

Spell checker only works in OE if you have MS Word installed also.

Well I have an old version of W*rks not Word, and I have spellchecker in OE
pmj...
|
That's cos the Word Processor part of M$ Works comes with (& Installs)
the relevant .DLL Files, which OutLook Express relies on, for its Spell
Checker functions.

I have W*rks and Word I might try them out on her laptop - Shhhhhhh!!!

And nobody in their right mind uses either of them :-) Vote for
Thunderbird and Open Office!
Greetings from New Zealand on a very cool Wednesday morning.

Hello David fron New Zealand, welcome to UPS.

Greetings from a sunny but chilly South Yorkshire here in UK. As a
yorkshireman I keep an eye on the cricketing world. I see your boys are
doing quite well against the Aussies right now in the ICC Championship in
India. Well may it continue.

And thank you for the greetings! Yes, our cricketers are doing
reasonably well. Must admit, though, that when New Zealand are
playing England my loyalties are strained. Been over here since 1962
but am still to get around to applying for NZ citizenship!

My friend is so very new to computers and I think she would be completely
put off
by my putting Thunderbird on her computer she is confuzzled enough already,
but thanks for your advice. Stay and join us.

Thanks for the welcome. After a couple of days you friend would be
quite comfortable with Thunderbird. Especially as you will be able to
import her address book and emails from MickeySoft Outlook Depress :-)
'Tis a cool, sunny Thursday morning here and after I've read my emails
etc., I'll be taking Albert for a run.

Thank you Mike - she does not have word on her laptop, I did wonder
about that.
Frederick Williams...

You may want to draw her attention to Netscape Communicator which is
free and includes a spell checker which does not depend on any other
program.

In what application Jackie, Word, OE or something else?
Jackie...
|
Hello Charlie - in OE please - XP
Gareth...

I don't know if this will be any help but there's a free dictionary
which can be downloaded from here.
If there's any word that one is unsure of the spelling, just type and
highlight the word then click on the WordWeb icon which will be down by
your clock and it'll open the dictionary showing that word or the
closest match.
Jackie...
|
Thank you Gareth, I forgot about that one, I have it on my computers but
this is for a friend so I could put that on for her.
Gareth...
|
It's a good dictionary to have on the computer regardless of whether or
not she has a 'spill chuckar'. ;-)
Jackie...
|
Yes I like it, very useful, thanks.

Jackie in OE go to Tools - Options - Spelling - tick top two :)
pmj...
|
But the Options (to Enable the Spell Checker & adjust its Settings)
in OE (OutLook Express are only available (in OE) if M$ Word (or the
Word Processor part of M$ Works) is also Installed on the Machine!
OE relies on the Spell Chucker part of M$ Word to do the Spell Checking.
The Options are there, (as Jackie noticed), in the Dialog Box in OE,
but are only available (i.e. not Greyed out) if the relevant .DLL Files
(that come with M$Word) are Installed on the System.
