It w*rks fine on my XP m/c, but for some reason on the W98 one it can't
find the server to update the weather. So I've reinstalled the last version
on that m/c.

Lost confidence in that program - it labelled visibility of 3 km as 'fog'
the other day, and this morning when it is foggy, with visibility less than
500 metres and raining, it says it is 'cloudy'.

Maybe your specs have steamed up :)

Clean them at least once a week, whether they need it or not, Mike :-)
It's just one of those things that I find so annoying.
When I did my Met Observer's Course we were taught the difference between
fog and mist and one of the criteria was that for it to be fog, visibility
had to be less than 1000 metres.
Of course there are other times when visibility is seriously reduced, e.g.
smoke or sandstorm, but I'm talking about fog here (aka low-flying cloud!)

I share your annoyance. It seems to me the weather was much more
reliable when it was nationalised!

Sorry to hear that, MCC. How far are you from the local weather station
which serves you?
It should tell you that.
Fog can be very localised ,so maybe your station is in fog whlie you are
not.Why not write
and tell old Singer? He wants to be as accurate as he can, I'm sure.

What concerns me is that the weather station is reporting visibility of
over 3000 metres but also reporting the local weather as fog, which, in my
opinion, is unprofessional and downright wrong.
I'm 9 miles away and about 300 feet higher so I'm well aware that my local
weather could be totally different from that at the weather station.

Thanks for explaining, MCC Sorry I did not get it first time.
I quite agree with what you say.

But surely it reports the weather from Camborne or Culdrose (or
whichever place you've selected) and not the village where you live
where it may be different?
MCC...
|
Oh, it does, but it reports the visibility as 3 km and then reports fog -
that's the bit that annoys me.

Perhaps it's the difference between consommé and pea-soup.
