I got fed up with my homepage looking like a junk yard and decided to remove

My homepage is 'about:blank'. Why do you (or anyone) have any other page *always* open to some remote
website? If you frequently want to visit a site you can put it on the 'Links' toolbar, and be just a click away, while
opening to a blank page saves time whenever you want to visit any other site.

Ah, quite often, I don't even want to go on the net, and if I want to web-search, Firefox has a built-in search bar.

Gosh what a difference. All of a sudden things seem faster and internet
explorer opens every single time !!!
Could this toolbar have been causing all my computer problems I wonder ?
I also remover the BBC news alerts too... Whilst I,m on the subject - what
else can I ditch that I ont really need ?
Any suggestions ??

Do you have a list of the software you have installed?

If you haven't get something like Belarc:

install it and it will produce an audit of your PC part of which will be
a complete list of the SW installed
