It'll serve them right if there's a mass closure of accounts.... but
unfortunately the British public are rather apathetic in doing that.

I suspect that is the general purpose of the charge. In the small print
the charges will be waived if the customer/client has other products
with the bank or a savings account with them.
Current accounts with below £1500 monthly input are costly to
administrate, they say

AFAIK they can be opened for £1. there was no mention of minimums in the
articles I have read on the subject.

So if everybody opened a Savings Account and left £1 in there they
wouldn't have to pay any bank charges on their Current Account - until
they close that loophole! :-)

Like they say, as one door opens, another slams shut..
All brought about because banks are being forced to dispense with other
back door charges. the next one they are faced with is cheque clearing
delays.
