Good morning....and to everyone else.
|
Morning one and all, very cold outside but no frost
Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
|
Very cold overnight here too, but BYT has been here since sun-up. Tem now
getting up to about +2°C although I reckon it was down to about -2°C
overnight.
Anita Carter...
|
The sun is shining brightly, the sky is a beautiful shade of blue - it is
dry out there . Bbrrrrrrrrrrrr it is also very cold out there :)
Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
|
And they're forecasting -4°C overnight and below freezing for most of
tomorrow too - well up here anyway. As you say Brrrrrrrr!!!
Anita Carter...
|
Well, you be nice - and keep it up there. I heard that John O'Groats had
snow last night - heavy too ;)

Good morning, Aries and all.
I'm still up, waiting for "What's My Line" at 3:30 AM.
Of course I slept most of the evening away, but
just woke up at nature's call.
Once I'm awake, I can't get back to sleep for a while.
BTW, last week they had the Duke of Bedford as a
celebrity guest on What's My Line.
He tried to fool the panel by answering with the
American "Yeah" instead of "Yes". Arlene Francis was
appalled by the slang even though, in her blindfold,
she didn't know he was a Brit.
Is "Brit" an uncomplimentary word? Didn't mean it to be.
Aries...
|
not at all as far as I know :)
Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
|
Not sure of your nearest town but Gatwick will be down to -3°C by 06-00.
Anita Carter...
|
Noooo that is way down south to us - the other side of the Thames - I am
north east London :)
|
Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
|
Ooops!! Forgot the link:
Anita Carter...
|
Our forecast is for 2degrees tonight - so a lot warmer than Gatwick:)

Thanks, Val. I didn't think Brit was an uncomplimentary word,
but I wanted to be sure.
My son asked if you folks call me a Yankee. I said no.
Yankee can be an offensive term in some contexts
related to the North and the South and the Civil War.
How do you refer to Americans at SISU? I've seen the word
"Merkin" here, but I don't care for it because it has another
meaning which is a bit risque.
Aries...
|
Ooooh, I didn't know that - thanks for the link Sea:
I guess most folk would or would have said Yank for American over here but
I must say I haven't heard that term recently. I have been saying
Merkan??? Is that offensive?
|
Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
|
Hee Hee!! You learn something new everyday. :)
You've heard the expression "If the cap fits - wear it" ? Well I wonder if
it applies to wigs too? ;)
~~seadancer~~...
|
Oh, so I guess you didn't know about the word either, FN.
What a difference one letter makes in a word!
I really have to watch my spelling. (g)
~~seadancer~~...

PPS-Well, it's more fun than talking about the weather! (g)
Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
|
Not to an English person - they always talk about the weather. See our GMT
Rabbit...
|
Just English ???? Sheesh I thought it was a *British* favourite
topic. Should I report you for racial discrimination ??:-)
Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...

I just didn't want to accuse of something that was unfounded. I thought we
were doing it even before 'mad dogs and Englishmen went out in the midday

I think the UK is about the only country in the world who can have so many
conversations about the weather :-) IMHO it's no bad thing, it's often a
topic you can start a conversation with a complete stranger in the
supermarket queue for instance and that's better than standing there like a
~~seadancer~~...
|
Yes, the weather is a great conversation opener or a filler for silent
moments, as when one finds oneself forced together with strangers, as in an
elevator or a station of some sort. It takes the stiffness out of a
situation to be able to say a few noncommittal words to one another. It
breaks the ice, so to speak.
Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
|
I'm too shy and reserved to ever dare to use a conversation opener. :)
Rabbit...
|
Oh there goes them flying pigs again :-)
Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
|
You know my version is much more credible than yours. ;)
|
|
~~seadancer~~...
|
I'm not sure if you're serious or kidding, FN.
Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
|
Serious Sea - I always am. :(
~~seadancer~~...
|
I didn't get that impression, FN.
Please cheer up. (g)
Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
|
Good disguise then, innit? :)
~~seadancer~~...
|
Oh, FN, you're incorrigible! (lol)
Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...

Main Entry: in·cor·ri·gi·ble
Pronunciation: (")in-'kor-&-j&-b&l, -'kär-
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English, from Late Latin incorrigibilis, from Latin in- +
corrigere to correct -- more at CORRECT
Date: 14th century

Not sure that all quite fits me though. :)
~~seadancer~~...
|
FN - Choose from any of the words below:
Incorrigible: irreparable, unfixable, beyond repair, irrecoverable,
irredeemable, irremediable, irremedial, uncorrectable
I wouldn't call you unruly, or depraved, or delinquent. (g)
Inveterate? Well, perhaps. (g)
Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
|
It was the " DEPRAVED (2) : DELINQUENT b : not manageable : UNRULY c :
UNALTERABLE, INVETERATE" I didn't particularly like. :)
~~seadancer~~...
|
How about: "PERFECT...Can do no wrong!" LOL
Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...

Now that *does* sound about right. :)

Jeff Gaines...

I had it at dinner with a colleague once, couldn't make out what it
was, like chicken but sweeter. On the way home discussing it with my
then wife we decided it was rabbit, within a few minutes I had to stop
and we were both sick as pigs!
Must have been psychological, I used to have a pet bunny called Snowy.

I can understand that.
It never fails to amaze me how the mind can affect
our digestive system.

Don't worry, Sandra. I didn't say FN was perfect.
I only suggested it as a possible adjective.
It's up to him to fulfull the possibilities. (g)

All successfully done Sea. LOL

You are incorrigible! LOLOL

Seems you always have a good retort ready.
It's hard to think of you as shy and reserved. (g)
Of course, replying is different from initiating conversation.
Lately I find that sometimes in RL I can't get a word in edgewise. Everyone
wants to do the talking. (g)

Yes, I've noticed. (lol) Weather is a popular topic there. I think it's a
way of connecting with other people. Weather is universal. We can always
come up with something to say about it, without revealing too much about
ourselves. And we do need to connect. Another universal situation.

.... and very Good Mor--- Oh, well what if it *is* aternoon now. ?
'Twas too cold to set foot in here this a.m. Lovely sunshine now through
this window... So- Good art'noon One and All. -- As one or two have already
said on this thread- we do tend to talk about the weather a lot. But it does
have pos. or neg. effect on us, doesn't it. Have you ever looked at someone
in train, caught their eye, smiled, -and what's the opening subect???
You're right.... Weather! Enjoy the rest of your day, All.
~~seadancer~~...

Yes, Marg, weather is a great topic for many reasons. In fact, DH is a
weather buff. He has a weather station and faithfully keeps extensive
weather records. This year is unusual for us because Lake George hasn't
frozen up yet. The Winter Festival in Lake George Village had to change its
agenda because there is no ice for the usual activities on the frozen lake,
which usually include motorcycle and four-wheel drive races on the ice, and
snowmobile jumps across open water between frozen sections.

Frosty here this morning which left us with a lovely crisp day. The view
from up the hill looking over the water was one of those awesome views with
everything so crisp and clear. There's hardly been a WFT in the sky all day
though some are appearing now as the BYT is getting ready for her bed.
Good afternoon one and all.
Jackie...

It has been nice and sunny here all day but a very cold wind, but at least
it is nice and bright and not that awful gloom.
Enjoy the rest of the day!!

Hi MCC. What is the college of knowledge?
BTW, I forgot to say that the temp here is 16 °F / -9 °C
at 3:20 AM, Thursday.
What's your temp there? Bet we're colder. (g)
MCC...
|
The 'college of knowledge' is my Adult Education Class where I am being
taught, not very successfully, Intermediate Adobe Photoshop digital
manipulation. I did two classes previously, Beginners and Basic. Hoping to
go on to Advanced after the Easter holidays if there are enough students to
make up a class. Needs a minimum of 6.
The class lasts for two hours one day a week for 12 weeks. I enjoy it.
Temperature here in Cornwall is 5.5°C/42°F and it's cloudy and dry.
|
Ali...
|
I bet you are, tonight's minumum temp. is forecast to be -5°C 23°F even
~~seadancer~~...

Good luck with Photoshop, MCC.
The curiosity bug hasn't bitten me in that area.
I'm glad because I'm sure I would be very frustrated.
Fortunately, DH takes care of our digital photos and
adjusts them when I ask, e.g., he reduces them so that
they have less kbs. Then he sends them to me by email.
(My CD application is broken on my laptop. Darn!)
These new digital photos take up so much memory space.
I got as far as cropping photos with a Kodak program,
but I didn't go any further.
As for the weather, you're warmer there than we are here.
I am so sick of this cold weather.
|
though we're some 10 degrees further north than you.
As Rabbit is so fond of saying, it's the Gulf Stream that does it.
