It's that time of year again - car insurance needs renewing next month - so
it's ringaround the companies time.

My current company have sent me a renewal notice and the premium has
increased by about £11 to £290. I've been with them 2 years now since
they were the cheapest company for those two years. Just 'phoned 4 other
well known companies and have been quoted - in descending order - £289,
£250, £247 and £198. I'm literally gobsmacked, since none of those
companies could better my premium last year. That lowest quote was from
SAGA , anyone in here got experience with them?

Pingu...
I got a quote of just under £230 through E-sure. I hadnt had my own
insurance for 14 years as I was under company polocies as well as other
peoples. Had 14 years claim free driving too.. with upto25k miles a year. I
managed to get 4 years discount because thats how long I was with my last
employer.

Foxy at w**k...
No but they keep sending me letters asking me to use them

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
Well after the price reduction they are offering me - perhaps you ought to
give them a bell when your insurance is ready for renewal - they are
offering me house and contents insurance when that's due too.

Just tried a company, new to me - Hastings (Don't know why Hastings 'cos
they're based in Bexhill on Sea) and the best they can do is £232-72.

Jeff Gaines...
Isn't Bexhill the 'posh' bit of Hastings?

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
Thought that was St Leonards.

Jackie...
No the posh bit of Hastings is St.Leonards, I used to live there but I now
live in Bexhill,
not far from Hastings Direct!!

Peirrepoint...
Jackie,

You're not the dreaded batter pudding hurler are you???????

Jackie...
he!he! I don't know about that one Pat, new to me, but I do make a jolly
good Yorkshire Pudding

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
Yep. My ex had an aunt who lived there too.

Jeff Gaines...
My mum trained in Hastings during the war, she was a driver in the ATS.
The whole family would go back for nostalgic trips to Bottle Alley :-)

Jackie...
I know Bottle Alley, looking a little worn there now and unfortunately
rather smelly due to the Drinkers that seem to gather there, though they
have made a drinking ban in some parts I don't know if it has improved!

Just got a Morethan quote online £229-03 - so what's with these other
companies quoting around £300 ?

Splodge...
I typed the details in once and it came up with a long list starting with
the cheapest down to the dearest. Amazingly the cheapest was Norwich Union
Direct, and it had a £25 cashback too. I've been with them ever since.

Rabbit...
Norwich Union was the cheapest for mine last year but as a matter of
principle I went with the next cheapest which was the one which kept the
call centre jobs in UK. It's a crusade of mine :-)

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
Do you wear one of these then?

Rabbit...
Wot's my nightie got to do with anything ???:-)

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
No denial then? And sporting the cross of St George to boot - you little
traitor you. :)

Rabbit...
Yeah but you don't know what I do to it in my sleep :-)

Just giving it a go Splodge and am waiting for the results right now.

Jayne...
I got my last insurance through confused.com too last time around. I had
been with Norwich Union direct, but got several wildly varying prices from
others when it came to renew, with Tesco being by far the dearest (£150 more
than the cheapest!). Believe it or not, the best quote was with Kwikfit,
who do their insurance through...... Norwich Union!

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
Cheapest was £232 so it looks like the Saga one I got this afternoon is best
so far.

Rabbit...
I hope you used a throwaway addy and a false or no telephone number. I tried
confused once a couple of years ago and I'm still getting the snail mail.
The phone calls only lasted about three months and the email addy was junked
after a month.

MCC...
insurance thread. They do car insurance as well as travel insurance
specialising in the over-50s - might be worth a whirl.

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
There's was the £247 quote Mike.

MCC...
Ah, right.

SAGA = Send a Geriatric Away :-))

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
As they didn't send me away I guess I haven't reached that state yet. :)

andon...
Can depend enormously upon the car too.
SAGA quoted Mrs On an enormously large amount
last year. Can't remember the figure but it was more than 500
quid dearer than the average price. Maybe they only like
Honda and VW claims???

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
Well mine's a Celica. :)

Jackie...
Ted has car insurance from Saga but only started in November 2005, they
quoted him about £100 less than
Online Direct who he had used for about 3/4 years.

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
Seems that's what they're doing to me too. Wonder what the renewal amount
will be next time round? :)

Rabbit...
My house/contents insurance is with SAGA but last year they couldn't equal
the AA for the car. Last year ( or the year before) SAGA became their own
underwriters and from what I read then their reputation in the insurance
market became good. BTW have you tried ASDA for car insurance ? I haven't
tried them but I've heard about them having good offers particularly to new

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
Just checked with Asda - their quote is highest so far at £294-98

Anita Carter...
Have you tried Morethan.com ? That is the one we use after seeing how much
other increased the prices for over 70s. I believe they are doing a £90
discount if you transfer to them too:)

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
Yep £229-03

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
Nope haven't tried them. Might do so in the morning.
