How can people be bored when they have the internet? ;-)
Aries...
|
Or researching one's family ;)
Gareth...
|
Which one can do on the internet. ;-)

I've spent many an hour/day/week/year researching hubby's family tree but
not my own. Oh yes the internet has been invaluable in that :)

My father had a friend with your hubby's surname named Joseph (but
known as George). He was Irish and a dentist and lived in Brighton.

Really, how interesting. Hubby's grandfather was Irish but all the
background paper work etc was destroyed during the troubles :(
Gareth...

George died in 2003 aged 80.
Aries...
|
Oh, did he have any family that you know of ?
Gareth...
|
Yes, a wife named Norah and a son called Nicholas (Nick - married to
Catherine) who works in insurance.

Yep, I traced first and seconds cousins a few years back, and we see each
other quite a lot, considering we live some way apart. I always thought my
Mum was the youngest of 5 children, but it turned out she had 9 siblings. I
couldn't have done any of the research without the Internet.
And what would we do without SiSu?

What I find surprising (and sad) is the number of people who do not
even know their own grandparents. :/

I am one of those Gareth, I have tried everything I can think of
but cannot get a link to my family history.
I have never seen my grandparents or know anything about them.
I can't go back from my father as he died when I was only eleven
so cannot remember things like his DOB or where he was born etc.
What makes things worse is I'm the last of the family apart from one
sister who can't remember her own name most of the time so I have
no one to ask questions.
As you say, it's sad but every now and again I try digging and one day
I may come up with something.
I would like to get a tree going, not only for my own interest but I could
pass it on to my children.

My dad tried all his life to find his half sister who had been taken to
America by her Grandparents, I found her on the Ellis Island shipping files
on the internet, and discovered everything about her life there from a
relative I found in Illinois, the most surprising thing was that when she
returned to England she married a Stanley Pleasence and had two sons, one of
who'm was Donald Pleasence the actor, I have actually met his brother and
one of his daughters and got lots of photo's of my Aunt including her
wedding photo, if only my dad had been alive to know all this.
The wonders of the internet again :-)

Wow! I've found our criminal ancestors. :-)))

I am still looking - have been for a year or so, and have found nowt :(

I search through any indices that I can get my hands on. It's
surprising who/what crops up in the most unusual places. :-)
