As I said Paranoia - As far as I can tell without reading all that=20
nonsense is the thread is about those choosing to leave PlusNet because=20
they don't like the change in the T&C. The OP is warning about the fee=20
waiver for activation and whether this can be claimed as void because of =

changes.

Where does to mention you will be moved to Tiscali?

=?iso-8859-1?Q?=A7ire=DFird?= & $ir Vivor...
It isn't paranoia at all. It's already started happening.

with many similar service providers are taking steps to ensure that=20
these people don't affect the the majority of users.

=?iso-8859-1?Q?=A7ire=DFird?= & $ir Vivor...
Too rapid growth and change. Getting a fair crack of the whip is one
thing, but when companies grow too rapidly and keep changing the rules
so that no one knows what the rules are any more - including the staff
themselves.

Thing is that there's going to be all these wonderful services
available via the computer, streaming this, streaming that, but the
infrastructure isn't there and capping the service isn't going to
allow anyone to take advantage of these wonderful services. I'm not
talking about the people who are downloading films 24/7 either, which
is why PlusNet have pulled the binary groups.

Customers are going to end up screaming this and screaming that
because they can't get the service they (a) want and (b) have paid
for.

Personally I'm not interesting in TV, so having it available via my
computer isn't a concern to me - unless I start being charged for
something I neither want nor am interesting in. TV is just one of the
"wonderful" advances being planned for.

Personally that pleases me.

As for Tiscali, well PlusNet aren't going to transfer anyone to Tiscali=20
what they are looking to do is to buy their wholesale service from=20
Tiscali and Easynet in order to provide higher transfer speeds of up to=20
24 mbps.

=?iso-8859-1?Q?=A7ire=DFird?= & $ir Vivor...
That's what they say. What'll theyll ultimately do is potentially
another matter altogether.

My PlusNet service has got better and cheaper since I joined and in the=20
next few months I will be upgraded to 8mbps. I expect my speeds will be=20
close to that figure as I live very close to the exchange.

=?iso-8859-1?Q?=A7ire=DFird?= & $ir Vivor...
We live close to the exchange as well, but we haven't seen an
improvement, in fact, it's gone the other way since we joined two,
three years ago. Often times the connection is slower than on dial
up!!

Of course if you really have such a downer on PlusNet you are free to go =

elsewhere any time you like.

=?iso-8859-1?Q?=A7ire=DFird?= & $ir Vivor...
Nobody's disputing that. There are some people who adore Tiscali but
there are a lot who think they stink.

I've no connection with PlusNet I'm just a happy customer who recognises =

what PlusNet is trying to achieve.

Yes, but this is a transfer to another network not another ISP

$irVivor & =?iso-8859-1?Q?=A7ire=DFird?=...
A transfer to another network provider, yes, Making you a customer of
plusnet in name only.

Tickettyboo...
But atm we are all customers of PN in name only. The network is provided
by BT..not BT broadband the isp but BT wholesale.
The Tiscali set up, as far as I understand it, will be the same. An isp
arm of the company ( just as bad as BT Broadband) and a network provider
arm of the company. It would only affect a small proportion of Plusnet

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
I'm awaiting the speed upgrade with fingers crossed too Mothy. :)

customers, those whose exchange is on LLU. LOL not mine, not ever, its way
too small for LLU to be financially viable, so I am stuckted with BT

All being done as we speak, without any warning to the purchaser of the
product ( us users )

=?iso-8859-1?Q?=A7ire=DFird?= & $ir Vivor...
Which is the first step to being moved to another ISP.

I don't think it'll be very long before PlusNet is part of the Tiscali
gorup of companies.

Still if you're happy with that as you seem to be, so be it, but once
bitten, twice shy!! I'll not go back to Tiscali in *any* form,
especialy when it's done by the back door. I've already told PlusNet
that. I doubt they'll listen though. Tiscali wouldn't listen to
their customers either.

=?iso-8859-1?Q?=A7ire=DFird?= & $ir Vivor...
If that's what you want to believe - especially when it comes from
PlusNet themselves. Fine.

Mothy...
Well the stuff form PlusNet is fine it's the other posts that tend to be =

ill informed, paranoid and self centred; that may be the fault of=20
PlusNet they've not been good communicators, but I believe things have=20
changed and improved recently.

allow migration between LLU and Ipstream and presumably vice versa=20

Mothy...
I'm happy with PlusNet no matter which wholesale provider they use. They =

currently use BT that doesn't mean I'll be transferred to BT Broadband,=20
Tiscali just happen to be another wholesale provider under the Local=20
Loop Unbundling rules.

Transco provide the network for gas supply Transco don't supply Gas.

Tiscali just happens to have two arms to their business one is an ISP=20
the other is as a wholesale provider they are two different things.

Unless PlusNet sell out to Tiscali, I'll be a PlusNet customer who uses=20
a 24 mbps Tiscali network and not the 8 mbps BT network. Any problems=20
with Tiscali will be dealt with by PlusNet in the same way that PlusNet=20
now deal with BT. PlusNet have said that they will give customers notice =

of any change to the network provider although I must say most people=20
probably won't notice or even care as long as it works. I'll join the=20
bandwagon if it doesn't work, but I'm not going to get paranoid until=20
the facts will out.

I still say I'm mystified why you stop with PlusNet, if I was in your=20
frame of mind I'd have left ages ago. I don't care who provides the=20
network as long as it works and is cheap.

=?iso-8859-1?Q?=A7ire=DFird?= & $ir Vivor...
You stick with them then and enjoy being a Tiscali customer. I really
wouldn't advise you joining the bandwagon. You really wouldn't like
that at all. You'd be so much better off with your 24 mbps service
from Tisca.... oops, sorry PlusNet.

PlusNet have been fine - up til now and passed experience of Tiscali
signals a warning.

Oh and Transco is British Gas and British Gas aren't all they're
cracked up to be either. I ought to know - I used to work for them.

Goodbye Mothy, and mind the flame. You don't want to get burned.

Keep smiling the more that leave the less contention on my line !!

although that isn't clear. Not everybody would want to go back to BT !!=20
I'd dearly love the opportunity to ditch BT but I guess I'll be stuck=20
with them as LLU in a rural setting isn't very attractive.

If PlusNet and Tiscali merge then a rethink is called for as I=20
deliberately avoided them when first moving to broadband. I haven't an=20

Mothy...
This reply confirms that you clearly do not understand what you are=20
reading. Totally the wrong end of the stick.

=?iso-8859-1?Q?=A7ire=DFird?= & $ir Vivor...
Why rethink?? You seem to believe everything's going to be hunky
dory. Just stick with them.

Mothy...
huhh? Suggest you re-read : I only want to be with PlusNet not Tiscali

issue with Tiscali Wholesale.

Anyway nuff said PlusNet forums are full of nonsense like this that's=20
why I stopped reading them.

=?iso-8859-1?Q?=A7ire=DFird?= & $ir Vivor...
Then I suggest you stop reading here as well.

The exit is down by the gent loo. Mind the step and the door. It's
apt to swing back quite hard and has been known to ...... oops it did.
Never mind.

some interesting (and cheaper) new products.

Dave Lear...
I've been using Eclipse's Flex500 service for over 18 months. Absolutely
trouble-free and the commissioning / switch from PSTN to ADSL was done
quickly and without fuss. The Flex service allows you to pay a cheaper
monthly rate (e.g. for a 512K service) but to occassionally 'flex' to 1MB,
2MB, 4MB or 8MB when you need to download something huge. You pay a few
pence extra per hour that you have 'flexed' up to a higher rate. I got a
free upgrade to a 1MB service a few months back but can still flex it higher

pmj...
I know that it's prolly a bit like comparing Apples & Pears
(or Chalk & Cheese?), since the High Speed, Always On, Broadband
Whooosher Internet Connection that I'm on is a *Cable Modem*
Connection, rather than an ADSL (Phone Line) Connection & thus
is only available in Areas of the Country that have a Telewest
Franchise Operating in them, but we get (on the standard
Telewest/Blueyonder Whooosher Connection) [*1], an absolutely
*Rock Solid* 4 (Yes *Four*) Mbps Connection...
24 Hours Per Day,
7 Days per Week,
365 Days Per Year,
With no Download Caps or Data Transfer Limits or Restrictions at all.

The Download Speed (assuming you are Connecting to a Server that
can actually Supply stuff fast enough! - & there are quite a few
Servers around that can't Send stuff as fast as this Download Speed)
is always a steady 490 - 500 Kilo Bytes Per Second
That works out at about 1 MB (MegaByte) every 2 Seconds.
Which is about 17 Minutes for a GB (GigaByte)!
That's about 3.5 GB Per Hour.
:-)

They also offer a basic (El Cheapo type) Service that is only about
1Mbps (125 KBytes Per Second) as well (& also a 10Mbps Service)

$irVivor & =?iso-8859-1?Q?=A7ire=DFird?=...
Yes I remember it well, from when I was with them in Glos.
Ah! them were the days :)

if I need to.

Free month's trial too, if you don't like it you can walk away.

MCC...
Not a very promising start :-(

"The connection has timed out

=?iso-8859-1?Q?=A7ire=DFird?= & $ir Vivor...
Nor is the fact that I raised a query with them at 15.34 and I still
haven't had a response from them of any description.

Flying Rat...
see my other post, yesterday was release day for the 8 meg product. They=20

Mothy...
This doesn't deserve comment!

Mothy...
You've lost the argument when you have to resort to this!

are swamped with queries from existing customers wanting a free regrade

They should reply soon

=?iso-8859-1?Q?=A7ire=DFird?= & $ir Vivor...
Good although you've answered my query anyway :))

Graham...
I just tried it and got the same... it is highly unusual for Eclipse
to have problems, and when they do have them they are fixed very
quickly. I've only had one major outage in four years.

Use the "Compare" feature at adslguide...

BoyPete...
I looked about an hour ago...........no prob.

BoyPete...
OK now too :)

The server at www.eclipse.net.uk is taking too long to respond."

Aries...
Do you happen to know how much webspace is provided ?

Graham...
25mb+ It depends which service you choose. I've been with Eclipse for
a long while... I swear by them... support is superb.

Aries...
not very much then :(

$irVivor & =?iso-8859-1?Q?=A7ire=DFird?=...
We are considering it, even though we don't use enough ( usually around 3Gb
a month ) to have to worry about the caps they have in place now, the way
they (+net ) keep moving the goal posts I wonder how long before it does.

As for the up to 8Mbs line speed, even the change to 2Mbs had no real
improvement over the 512Mb service.

datasmog...
PlusNet's traffic management peak time runs from 4pm to midnight.
Outside those times you can download as much as you like without any
speed restrictions other than those imposed by the contention and line
quality etc.

$irVivor & =?iso-8859-1?Q?=A7ire=DFird?=...
Not strictly true, as I understand it. up until recently I believe the peak
time was 8am to midnight.

datasmog...
Yes. And now it's 4pm to midnight, which extends the time you have
without a download restriction.
That means anything you download between midnight and 4 pm, that's 16
hours per day, doesn't count towards your download allowance.
That's go to be a bonus, hasn't it?

On our product we were suddenly faced with a 30Gb cap which has now gone
down by two thirds to 10Gb with out restrictions, as I said our usage is
3GB at most a month but usually around half that. But I do wonder how long
it will be before they drop it further, they seem to vary things almost

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
The only changes on mine - was when the price dropped from £19-99 to £15-99
(I now have a 2Gb limit - and have only exceeded it once) and the contention
wass changed from 30:1 to 50:1. That leads to my measured down;oad speeds
dropping from 2Mbps to about 1Kbps on certain occasions.

weekly now.
