This is a weird one ........ Whenever we use the microwave, (or the
oven/hob), we lose the wi-fi connection in any rooms that are beyond the
router and kitchen ! The router is in the living room, which is next to

Actually, it's fairly normal & quite common!
|
the kitchen and any rooms beyond that are cut off whenever cooking is in
progress. Doesn't bother me, I'm sat next to the router, lol.

Can't beat that, but I have a 14" tv next to my poota, and If I use the
remote to turn down sound on TV, it turns it down on poota too. Now, I
thought TV remotes were IR............... eh???

We live in a weird world ! lol

Well IR is also em-radiation - lying between microwaves and the visible
spectrum - so not too surprising either. :)

Well micowaves and radio waves are both electro-magnetic radiation. The
pmj...
only difference is that radio waves have a spread of wavelengths that are
longer than microwaves. The point at which microwaves become radio waves or
radio waves become microwaves is very tenuous, so one could say that
microwaves are very short wavelength radio-waves, or equally valid radio
waves are long wavlelength microwaves. So it isn't surprising that the
radiation from your microwave oven interferes with the w*rking of your
router's wireless (radio) link to you pooters. I know the oven is supposed
to be screened to prevent the leakage of the microwave radiation, but how
much more powerful is it's microwave transmitter than the radio transmitter
in your router. And of course the radio waves from the router will be at
the shorter wavelength range of the radio band. Perhaps someone could tell
us what wavength em-radiation is produced in routers and microwave ovens.

They both use the 2.4 GHz band!
|
They probably aren't all that dissimilar.
pmj...

Yep.
Which is why there is the problem.

There you go then! Even less surprising. :)

The Radio Spectrum is very short of spare Frequencies available
for use, (& has been for many years, but it's getting worse, with
all the recent stuff that has come out), so there are a lot of things
that overlap, such as WiFi & MicroWave Ovens.
