Rabbit...
Want to know which area your surname is most common in now ( 1998) and in

BunnyHare...
Yep its either busy or UPS brokted it

Ali...
Not UPS this time. This was posted in geneaolgy groups last week. They
brokted it first. The website is just a by-product of university research on
migration (within the UK). They didn't expect so many visitors.

Note that if there are less than 100 people with a particular surname in an
area it doesn't show at all.

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
That explains it then. I don't think there's many more with my surname
world wide.

Rabbit...
Probably people doing wot I did. Once I got in I kept it open to try various
names. Keep trying I did get in this afternoon.

pmj...
But keeping the *Page* Open (in your Web Browser) has no effect!

Once the Page is loaded, then the Connection to the Web Server
is finished.

& then when another Query is Sent (from your Web Browser),
that's done with a *separate* (additional) Connection, from your Browser
to the Server

That's just the way the HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol) works.

But for a fuller & more complete understanding of it, you would
need to read up the various RFCs about it, such as...

RFC 1945 - Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.0

RFC 2068 - Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1

8 Connections
8.1 Persistent Connections
8.1.1 Purpose
8.1.4 Practical Considerations
13 Caching in HTTP

with particular Reference to the "Cacheing" of Data & the use of
the "Keep-Alive" stuff that is available in the Headers of the HTTP
Requests.

"Keep-Alive" is used for some Connections & Requests, but the actual
(TCP/IP) Connection to the Server is still closed after a (variable)
period of time.

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
Yep! That's certainly a possibility since a certain subscriber from
Derbyshire has been around today. LOL

a surname*. BTW it's very new and very busy so you might need to keep trying
to get the page. I managed it in the wee sma' hours and since I know the
history of my maiden name I reckon it's pretty accurate for 1881 anyway.

Tyke...
Interesting,my surname shows up on the 98' survey but the 81' survery shows

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
Presumably 'cos there weren't many of you around in the 19th century.
There's not enough of us around to shopw up in 1998 either. :( or should
that be :) 'cos we're so rare.

Tyke...
LOL

Perhaps we *all* moved to Aus.

Now there's a thought - a global search - that would be interesting :-)

'Moff now - delivering. :-)

nothing at all.

Linedancer...
I have tried it umpteen times, it was published in the Mail so there must be
thousands of people trying to get it.

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
Not too conclusive. I got:
"There were no results found for your selection" for both 1998 and the
census. :(

andon...
You are meant to use your actual name. Not your "screen" name :-)

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
Of course. :) Still nothing though.

Rabbit...
So you are unique :-)

MCC...
Either that or an illegal immigrant :-))

Rabbit...
Now there a point ;-)
BTW Mike have you tried your name ? Your lot didn't wander very far :-)

MCC...
Yes, I tried it the other night when I read about it on the BBC news
pages.

Rabbit...
I didn't see that I got it in a mail yesterday.

Orkney and Caithness seemed to be about the limits! But there is a fairly
substantial number in and around Tynemouth which doesn't seem to show up on
those maps.

Rabbit...
I think I can see a little bit of purple just above me. I presume those
might be relations of yours?

MCC...
Not that I'm aware of, but then we are all Jock Tamson's bairns ;-))

Rabbit...
I remembered this area being mentioned on your family tree page, not north
of me but close enough.

MCC...
My mother died in Ayr, but that was because at the time she moved there, it
was to a Church of Scotland Eventide Home, of which my sister was Matron.
That's the only connection I know of with your part of the world.

Rabbit...
I remember when most towns had an Eventide Home. The one here disappeared
many moons ago but I've just thought, doesn't *Eventide Home* sound ( though
I've no idea if they were) much nicer than *nursing home* or * Old folks
home* or whatever they call them today.

MCC...
My mother, who was Matron of the Church of Scotland Eventide Home in
Dornoch, and my sister both had nursing qualifications but the Homes of
which they were in charge were definitely not "nursing homes". Residents
had to be able to take care of themselves as a prerequisite of entry. They
were expected to do their own washing-up after meals but that was the only
duty that was expected of them. They lived very comfortably and were well
looked after by all the staff.

Rabbit...
It never stops amazing me the things I learn in here. I didn't know that
about Eventide Homes.

I think the Church of Scotland now calls them "Care Homes". I'm still

Rabbit...
So they still exist ? The one here has gone many moons ago but then so have
many of the actual churches in the town.

puzzled as to how my mother got that job as Dad used to say she was so far
left she would have got free tram rides in Moscow :-))
And apart from our various weddings, I don't think she ever was in a kirk
after her own wedding.

Rabbit...
As my grandpa used to say * The nearer tae Heaven the further frae grace *
:-)

Rabbit...
That's true :-)

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
Not quite Mike we had family back in the 1500s that I have found. Having
said that they were in 4 clusters, all four of which were very close to
ports of the time. So it's possible they were illegal immigrants before
that. :( But then weren't the majority? :)
