Have you taken the test?
Pardon? :-)
Takes about five minutes.

I've just got a round tuit and passed. So I was right about some telly
channels altering their sound from one programme to another.
Ali...
|
And between programmes and adverts even more. If I fall asleep watching TV
I usually wake up when the adverts come on, because they are so much louder.

I notice the biggest difference when I flick from Sky (satellite) to BBC
(terrestrial)
Rabbit...
|
That's true too, different channels do have different sound levels so it's
nice to know it's now my hearing :-)

Would you like to re-read your last sentence? :)
Rabbit...
|
Oops now* should of course read *not*.

|
It's something to do with the way they filter and compress the sound for
transmission.

Sounds like a good idea!
:-)
&
But I just tried it & it said that you can't do it from a Mobile
Phone!!!
:-(
That's a bit silly!
I s'pose it's cos you need to use the KeyPad to Enter Responses?
But surely people can do that OK, if they use a Mobile?
Besides, many ordinary Phones now have the KeyPad on the Handset
anyway.
Also...
I would have thought it would make sense to also have the test
(or a similar test) available via the Web?
Cos a Telephone actually has a very limited Frequency Response
(& many Telephones have Volume Controls & are specially Set to
"Enhance" Sounds anyway...
With my (bad) Hearing I find I can hear people (usually) OK on
a Phone (cos it's right next to my ear & it has a Volume Control),
but my Hearing is *way* below what it should be & unfortunately
any Frequency above a few KHz is severely Attenuated.
Which makes distinguishing between words like "sixty" & "fifty"
difficult.
If the test was available on a Web Page (using Sounds Downloaded/Played
from the Web, on the PC), then it could be *far* more effective at
pinpointing the probs, for many people.

So have you told all this to the RNID? I'm sure they'd appreciate your
comments.

I agree !! I just tried it , but could not hear very well cos i do wear an
hearing aid, but the voice was very low anyway ,and it said my responces
were too slow then goodbye;-)))

My hearing in within the normal range
pmj...
|
Lucky you!!!
:-)
I had trouble (using a normal Landline Phone, not a Mobile Phone)
even hearing (& understanding) the Introduction & Instructions part
of it!
:-(
The bloke giving the Instructions seemed to speak in a very soft,
quiet & pronounced Irish(?) sort of Accent.
& then, when it came to the test itself, (the Numbers spoken with
the background noise) I had great difficulty with it - I wanted to
ask them to please speak more distinctly - not *louder*, but just
more clearly.
But then that is exactly what I have come to expect from my Hearing,
cos of its lack of High Frequency Response.

I havn't tried the test yet pmj but I have a hearing aid for one ear and
mine is lack of High Frequency Response too
all due to a virus I got a couple of years ago now.
pmj...
|
Sheesh!!!
"all due to a virus"?
What will they think of next???...
These Virus Writers certainly know how to make life awkward for
people, don't they?...
Did you not make sure to use your Avast AntiVirus thingy then?
& did you Open up some dodgy Mail (or Web Page) without taking proper
care & precautions?
:-)
