MCC...
Jerry Atrick has sent me some photos he took yesterday and again this
morning. I have put them on my website at

BunnyHare...
Lovely photos. Looks pretty but a bit chilly

Rabbit...
The beauty of raw nature. Those were beautiful, particularly the really
black sky ones. Thank you Mike and Jerry.

Don't get frostbite :-)

Jackie...
Lovely photos, `those black clouds` wow! and so bleak!
Thank you for showing them Mike and Jerry for taking them.

Pam the goose...
Thanks Mike:)
Utterly beautiful!
What a gorgeous place to live:)

Foxy at w**k...
Absolutely beautifull thanks u2

Mike Tullett...
Hi Mike

I also took loads of photos the last few days. I've put a few on this web
page, showing some of the snow scenes here.

Jackie...
Some lovely photos there, beautiful.

MCC...
Thanks for sharing those Mike.
I really liked the beach scene looking into the sun.
The clubhouse car park looks deserted :-)

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
You'd have thought they would have made the effort wouldn't you?
Even if it was only to play at the 19th hole. :)

~~seadancer~~...
Yes, it looks pretty cold!
I found a good map of Scotland at:
I like this map because it shows the different regions in
different colors, easy to distinguish.
I couldn't find a map which showed the Shetland
Islands in relation to the rest of Scotland.
Most maps only have an arrow pointing north to Shetland.
I found *separate* maps of Shetland, but not a map
encompassing *all* of Scotland without the arrow,
i.e, incorporating Shetland with the rest of Scotland.
I'm not familiar with the detailed geography of this part of the world.
So maps do help.

Smokey...
Remember those scenes well from my childhood, gosh it did snow some then!!
Try this page which at least shows the islands in their proper places.

~~seadancer~~...
That *is* a good map, Mike. Hmm, Yahoo did something right! :)

Mike Tullett...
We walked from the promenade in Portstewart (seen in the last photo) to the
golf club, Mike refers to in the last photo. That particular one is taken
looking across to Castlerock and the Mussenden Temple, once owned by the
Bishop of Derry, the Earl of Bristol.

I was surprised how quiet the course was - bit like a cold Wednesday
(ladies day:-)) Even the bar was deserted until we arrived.

Thanks very much. Yes, the islands are shown in their proper places.
I've bookmarked that map. Seems to be rare. (g)
I also found:
which gives a good perspective of the relation of Shetland to
Greenland, Iceland, and Norway.

MCC...
Yes, not many people realise that Shetland is on the same latitude (60
degrees North) as Cape Farewell in Greenland, Alaska and Moscow.

Then I found this one of the Norwegian See:
It's interactive and you can zoom in to see details.
I discovered Torshavn and the Faroe Islands of Denmark.
I had never heard of them before!
How did Denmark get to claim them? Probably no one wanted
them anyway. Too cold. (g) That's probably why Denmark let
Iceland go. :)

sigvald...
Denmark aquired the Faroes, along with Norway and Iceland in the 14th
century (at that time Denmark was a bigger Europen power than England)
and the islands are still parts of the Danish realm, although they have
home rule and could well become independant one day.
Iceland did not become independat because of cold, they are not much
colder than the northernmost parts of the UK. Canada and the northern
parts of the USA are much colder than Iceland during wintertime.

~~seadancer~~...
Thanks for the interesting bits of info.
I love learning new things.

Ali...
Thank you for that information, Sigvald. I think you are our first poster
from Iceland.

I'm a little surprised that the welcome squad have not been along to greet
you yet.

MCC...
There's a ferry service that runs between Iceland, Faroes, Shetland, Norway
and Denmark. Some pretty horrendous voyages in the winter :-)

~~seadancer~~...
Thanks for the link, Mike. Must be quite a ferry ride!
But I'm far enough north here in upstate NY, thank you. :)
We call *this* The North Country. (g)
BTW, I can't believe I mispelled Sea. LOL
Guess I've been looking at too many maps and I'm getting bleary-eyed. :)
