When Mum was living in her flat she received Housing benefit and Council tax
benefit. This was paid straight to the council. Mum did not have to do
anything. Now aparently because my sister took Mum's key back to the council
a week before the tenancy was up - yo had to give 1 months notice - the
benefits people are saying Mum has to pay back £53.04 as she was not living
in that property for that week. I don't undrstand it and the girl was not
very helpful. How can someone pay back something they haven't had? Why can
they not just get it back from the council? It was the same same council
tel. no for the benefits and the rent. Plus I was on hold for 10 mins. They
are so quick to take money away from old people, and give it to others.
Perhaps it pays to be more economical witht the truth

That really isn't on :-( Try ringing a councillor or two, there 'must' be
a local election in the offing and they may be able to unravel the problem
for you. If not I think I would also contact the local paper, may not do
any good but ti may make you feel better and let others know that they
need to think of these things.

I think this sounds like a "jobs worth " here and would be trying someone
else !!
perhaps "Age concern " good luck cos that is not on ;-)

That does sound very silly I think Noreen's suggestion of Age Concern sounds
