Can anyone recommend a malt whisky that is not peaty tasting please
MCC...
|
Avoid any from the Western Isles, especially Islay, which are very peaty.
Sadly you'll have to avoid Highland Park from Orkney too :-((
Try 'The Macallan' or 'The Glenlivet' - both quite drinkable, or so I'm
told ;-)

Yes I was thinking of a Glenivit Mike. Is Isle of Ulah (That's not spellt
right is it) ok too
MCC...

Not quite sure which one you mean, Jen, but if it's Isle of Islay, avoid

I second Glenlivet for a neutral taste
My own tipple is Old Pultney, but that's very peaty/salty

Personally I prefer Glenmorangie, but I don't refuse any of them.

That's OK - Have you tried it? Actually I like Laphroig but I don't like
the price!

No I haven't, but then, like Jen, I don't drink whisky either.

Jen - if you have a Lidl store near at hand they do a very nice 12 year (and
I think an 8 year) old Malt which should fit your bill. It is called Ben
Bracken and is a single malt from Speyside. I have a couple of bottles
here - stick yer glass out and have a taste.

PS I like the really peaty ones though!!

I have printed that out Michaelangelo thanks

|
Ben Bracken is Lidl's own brand. They market it as a single malt but it
is not listed as such in any of the generally recognised lists and,
interestingly, the Edinburgh University Water of Life Society have it
down as a blend, albeit a good blend.

I'd second Macallan. Dalwhinnie, I think, is another one.

it!
If it's Isle of Jura, then that carries very little peat.

That's the one I meant Mike
Thanks for the advise

Perhaps this may help?
It tells you the Sweetness, Peatiness & Availability
e.g.
Aberlour - Peatiness - 4
Balvenie - Peatiness - 3 (low)
Glenlivet - Peatiness - 4
Glenmorangie - Peatiness - 4
Isle of Jura - Peatiness - 7 (high)
Macallan - Peatiness - 4

Thanks Gareth, very interesting

I found Royal Brackla to be a surprisingly pleasing whisky - a tad out of
the ordinary! It comes from Speyside.
