Are you certain the name in the emoticons.ini file matches the actual gif
file? There is no blush.gif on my page, it's icon_redface.gif; I suppose
you renamed it when you downloaded it.

Yep I renamed it blush.gif - can't understand why it doesn't w*rk. The gif
w*rks OK when I double click it in the emoticons folder. Perhaps I'll try

Don't know if it makes a difference but in emoticons.ini, the emoticon and
the filename are separated by a tab, not a space, and there are no leading

Copy/Paste one that is already there and working, then change it... has to
be right then. Try it near the top too. Close down OE and restart using
the Quotefix OE icon.

They don't work for me either FN, since I moved to XP. When I mentioned
this a couple of weeks ago, pmj told me how to enable them, but
explained that it would compromise the security of the computer. :(

It *should* w*rk - please read Ali's post again :-
C:\Program Files\OE-Quotefix\emoticons.ini
should contain
:?) blush.gif
and
C:\Program Files\OE-Quotefix\emoticons
should contain the .gif file
blush.gif

In that case, I suspect that "?" is being treated as the end of the
sentence, and not being processed.

To try to understand this, I've altered the security settings on my
computer to allow the emoticons to w*rk :?) Everything appears fine in
the "Drafts" folder, so let me do a live test :?)

Well they are w*rking fine here too, and I haven't changed anything since
yesterday. Perhaps it was the ᧧ stamping feet and switching everything off
for aq while that's done it. :)
