Well now it's more than 36 hours since PN asked BT to sort out my BB
disconnection, and nothing further to report - struggling at 39.4 Kbps this

Sorry to read about your problems FN and I hope you can soon get it sorted,
so annoying when you cannot do anything about it.

Just taken 28 minutes to download the latest XP security patches. Had to
reboot so reconnected. Better speed now - 48.3 Kbps. :(

I think it's put in an official complaint to BT day today.

The first sign of madness is talking to yourself the second is possibly
believing that after pressing all the buttons on your phone you will get a
real person at BT who understands/speaks English :-(

I feel like it's the final stage not the first. :(

Good point, trying to speak to a real human at BT could send a saint over

Well I've managed to talk to three this morning, two with mild Asian
accents and one with a very slight Scottish accent. All to no avail. :(

With all the (internet via telephone lines) problems I keep reading
here, I thinkl I'm going to stay with cable!

It may be pricey, but at least it's not relying on ancient technology.

It took me about 3 days and many telephone calls to sort my BB last time
it went AWOL. I proved to BT that there was nothing wrong my end as I
was able to upload/download files to their test site, but it didn't
appear to make any difference.
In the end I resorted to my pal who has a computer business, used a
different IP address and changed my password. That got me going.
Basically BT cut me off and locked me out all because I changed the
options on my contract, as well as double billing me.
I made an official complaint, but that was ignored, so I wrote to the
chairman Sir Christopher Bland. I then received an apology.
I know how you feel. I'm afraid you will have to stick with it, as all
ISP's are the same.
It looks like all this mess will be cleared up (migration codes etc.) in
the not too distant future.

I still want to know why it appears that some third party is able to
authorise the disconnection of my service. Well both PN and BT deny doing
it, so who - and why? This particular 'phone line has been active since

Could it have been somebody with a similar phone number who should have been
disconnected and nobody bothered to marry the number to an address/account

The engineers had both my surname and my phone number on their job sheet and

there's only two others with my surname within the area of my local
exchange, and their numbers are quite different from mine so that is a very
remote possibility. But yes I'm pretty certain there's some cross linking
somewhere along the line. When I had a speed fault a few months ago the BT
diagnostic equipment showed I was synching at more than 4000 kbps and my
line was not interleaved, whereas my router ADSL status page showed me
synching at 288 kbps and line interleaved. I believed my router because my
download speed was much less than 240 kbps. When they found a
connection/wiring fault in the exchange and rectified it my router showed
synch rate more than 4000 kbps and line not interleaved, as there
equipment had done. So they tallied. Earlier in the week just before I was
de-wired ther was a similar sort of discrepancy. They said I was
interleaved but router said I wasn't. Now we all agree that I only have a
phone connection and no broadband.don

installation in the late 1940s and never a missed or late payment. I have
been with Plusnet BB for over 3 years and they have alway debited my bank
account on the 2nd or thereabouts of every month. So neither of them had
cause to do it anyway, as far as I can see.
