My hot water went down to a trickle last night (yes, I was in the bath lol)
and then finally stopped. No hot or cold in the bath or washbasin, and only
cold in the kitchen for the rest of the evening.

Just a thought Splodge - do you have a Condenser Boiler - if so have you
checked the water pressure gauge on the boiler? - as MA says the kitchen
cold tap comes direct from the mains so that *would* be OK unless the main
service was down of course.

Splodge...
Oh dear, it's not wise to ask me technical questions Donut. What's a
condenser boiler?

With a Condenser Boiler you would not have a separate cold water tank or a
hot water cylinder. The mains water supply is taken through the Condenser
Boiler and the pressure at the boiler governs the pressure of the supply to
the radiators and taps - that is how I understand it Splodge.

MCC...
If the cold water pressure in the kitchen was normal all evening, that
would indicate there is nothing wrong with the mains supply into the house.
Therefore you would appear to have a problem in the house.

This morning it's all fine, so I'm thinking this might be a change in
pressure or sumfing. None of the neighbours had any probs.

MCC...
Your neighbours didn't have problems because the problem is in your house.

So my questions are - what do you think the cause might be, and should I get

MCC...
Don't know, but I suspect a problem with your header tank's supply. It may
have filled up slowly overnight, filling the hot tank too, giving the
impression that all is back to normal, but if you run a bath tonight you
might just drain the system again. Not good news.

it checked out properly?

John the R-T...
Get off to the doctors.

MCC...
Definitely. If you don't know of a reliable plumber try contacting your
local Age Concern office - they may have a list of tradesmen they
recommend.

Splodge...
Run a bath tonight? Wot? Have a bath 2 days running?? Splutter, splutter!!
If you knew how long it took to psyche myself up and get the Bath Knight
cranked up, you'd see why I'm laughing like a drain here. Sorry Mike, it's a
great suggestion, but that's the reason I go to my Club so often - to sit in
the hot tub and sauna, have a long gossip, and then shower afterwards.
(besides, for some reason the BK is on the same wavelength as my door chime,
but that's another story!!)

See reply to Michaeangelo - I already know a good plumber and will
definitely be getting it checked out before the week is out.

I'm grateful for your long reply. Thanks Mike

Please don't ask me to bend down and look at anything below waist
level:))))))

John the R-T...
See above.
