Question from an enquiring kiwi:
Are there commemorations planned for the 300th anniversary of the union
between England and Scotland?

Some of us are trying to forget it :-)
On January 16, 1707, the Edinburgh parliament voted by 110 to 67 for Union
and its own destruction. When the Lord High Chancellor of Scotland, the Earl
of Seafield, gave the Royal Assent to the Act of Union, he touched the
historic document with the royal sceptre and said: "There's ane end of ane
auld sang."
The above from an interesting article at

We're having discussions about breaking it up if that's a celebration?

I've got my name down for dual nationality and a couple of ethnic minority
grants.

To have any chance of either you'll have to arrive in a grossly
overcrowded open fishing boat either at Greenock or Leith.

Think my lot already did that the other way round in the early 1870s :-)
